Discuss Swords at the Officers forum within the The Army Rumour Service website; I'd hang on to them, they will be highly sought after collector's items in years ...
Reading up on WKC history, they made swords, knives and daggers for the Nazis/German Army in WW2.
After WW2 the german army were not allowed to carry blades. Not sure if this is currently true, but I don't see many German soldiers carrying Swords/Knives etc.
Pooley purchased some old knackered machinery from Wilkinson that had not been used for many years and shipped it to India where all his swords are produced. It is very unlikely that these machines will ever be used.
WKC purchased some components and tooling from Wilkinson but as their swords are produced in The Far East it is unlikely that any of it will be used.
The only company manufacturing swords in the UK is Sussex Swords whose swords are more expensive than the imported ones but are of far superior quality.
Mess Dress sell WKC Swords at much cheaper prices than those asked for by WKC themselves or their other agents. They are obviously not as greedy as the other companies selling these swords, which are manufactured in The far East.
ok i dont mean to sound like a complete idiot , i have tried to look it up but do all officers still have swords whith there dress and what swords do the different types of regiments have , if any one has any information i would be most gratfull thank you as im trying to research this [particular area for a friend
Officers still wear swords with both their Service and No1 Dress. However it is not compulsary for an officer to own his own sword, MoD and most regiments have loan pools.
There are many different types of swords carried in the British Army and it is very difficult to find a source which gives details of which sword is carried by each regiment. One of the countries best known experts is Malcolm Ordever who is now Sales Director of Sussex Swords Ltd who are now the only manufacturer of swords producing in the UK.
I suggest you contact him at www.sussexswords.com
If you were an officer in a Scottish Regiment or the SCOTS you would have noneed for this device as you would hold your scabard when the sword is drawn and march without swinging your arms.
As do the Navy, and bloody un-natural it is too!
The RN are (or were) not permitted (Queen Vic) to hang their swords as they are not gentlemen (mutiny somewhere, told the sailors to come down and discuss it nicely, hung the lot.) It was supposed to last for a hundred years and is long gone but none of the matelots seem to have noticed.
Effing difficult to catch the sword on the march off without the hilt turning it. Try it. They do swing the left arm unless you are walking up steps (i.e. the only time anybody practices which is the passing out divisions at Lord High Admiral's parade at Dartmouth.)
Loan appointments are not completely wasted (though I was - gin at 6p a tot).
