Re: Welbeck... You know you want to!!
Appreciations - didn't they disappear in about 1990, or are they back in now?

Re: Welbeck... You know you want to!!
I experienced a School Disco event last night for the Welbexians. I have one conclusion to draw about the majority...what a bunch of animals!

Re: Welbeck... You know you want to!!
Is that necessarily a bad thing with the bland Officers who are joining Corps these days?

'Spellcheck'????....Presumably you meant to write 'lets rather than 'let's'.

I suppose you are correct Ford_Prefect.
Talking to someone else, they said it was actually quite a restrained evening

Re: Welbeck... You know you want to!!
Didn't know they did an RCB. They just got in through the backdoor in my day.

The Welbeck RCB is two days, rather than three. They've taken out things like the team assault course.
They put more emphasis on your academic ability (although some people haven't even taken GCSEs at the time!), but apart from that, I believe most of it is run the same.
Oh, except that the bar is closed, as none of you are old enough to drink."Where's my flask and why do we have a round left and no bag charge for it?"

Re: Welbeck... You know you want to!!
In my day Welbexians used to mend your car or provide foodstuffs, the sort of thing that commissaries would do in the age of purchase - or the Golden Age as I like to think of it. We would never discuss school days in front of them as they would become fretful, restless and possibly lag their beds later that night. They were pale, shivering and agued types. They had unsuitable pets and married the other, less pretty, earnest girls who came to balls with our girlfriends.
They had a natural rapport with their Corporal VMs, often driving similar motor-cars. They would drink fizzy keg beers and were a banker for Soccer officer. They often suggested a dart-board or pool-table might enhance the mess. Science Today was likely to pitch up in their pigeon holes rather than The Field or Shooting Times.
Now they are fantastically changed. One I know drives an open top Swedish sports car, is in a vaguely fashionable infantry regiment and is not good at arithmetic! Unbelievable how this world changes...
Daddy-pig says "Snoort!"
They used to say if an infinite number of chimps typed we would get the works of Shakespeare, the internet has proved this is NOT the case...

You'll be glad to hear that they still flash massively at 'innocent' comments about Welbexians - even those who came out of it 20 years ago. :P

Why go to Welbeck when you can piss about in Sixth Form on an Army Scholarship?
You stay with all your old school mates for another two years, you're loaded and doss around doing subjects you really want to do!
The Army leave you well alone, apart from the occasional offers to visit places etc, you just get on with your normal civvy life.

Sangreal,
Have just given myself a stern talking to, and apologise unreservedly for my appalling punctuation.

Re: Welbeck... You know you want to!!
I went there, the best things about it was the building, location and the mates i made. Looking at the new adverts on tv i dont think i'd go to new place.
I failed my first year at uni (what do they expect when they give you so much drinking money). The options open to me were go straight to sandhurst do not pass go or leave system. Due to wanting degree i left system, am now at the end of my degree so am applying to re join. The big plus is I can now apply for any part of the army i want.
vaguely on topic

Re: Welbeck... You know you want to!!
Ah, welbeck, those were the days. not too sure about this whole new building thing. Though I never really appreciated the place until i went back to visit.
At the time (well second year) i thought it was great, however looking back, its suprising it lasted with the senior entry always been given a free reign over the juniors and none of the staff knowing what really went on.
It truly was a unique experience, and pulling some of the local ladies was also an "experience". The female welbexians always had the odds tipped in their favour, though i still pulled too many of the Munter variety! (Though was there other varieties...i wonder!)
