The Welbeck, Shriv, RowCo, Sandhurst, Commission in the RLC path is a sad one, no longer given even a touch of credibility by the RowCo bit.

What! * Only one bitter and twisted post about Welbeck - *and that a hackneyed re-work of an old theme - is Welbeck finally losing it's pole position as institutional hate-figure? Surely some one out there can do better than that - after all, so many of you (line regiments, cavalry, and gunners included) have Welbexians amongst you.... I guess the whining has dropped off from the REME and R Signals elements now so much of their heirarchy at CO level and above hails from the college up north....

I can understand that good, honest, fit young chaps of limited means would like to go to dear old Welbeck - especially if it saves good old Pater a bob or two....what I want to know however, is, why is it that they come out as such self serving, conceited, cock-sucking bum sharks especially when they all end up in the RLC or R SIGNALS?

The main reason that those from 'the college of the North' are less the hate figures that they uesd to be is that they are no longer given the grace-and-favour REG C that used to wind up the non-WibblyWobblies.

The second reason is that they are not all w*****s.

Welbeck will eventually move to the Garats Hay Barracks site just outside Loughborough. A very pleasant site with several class pubs within walking distance (try the Pear Tree- healthy disrespect for last orders and opposite a chinky)

Has anyone here been to welbeck??? If so is it good or bad?

Yes I attended Welbeck and have A Levels in Maths, Physics and Bullying!

The place provided a first class education to oiks like myself and was, I have learnt, no different to the prep schools that many in my Platoon at Sandhurst attended. The place did have a military undertone which manifested itself in the form of fat Physics teachers writing on the bottom of your school reports what they thought of your officer potential. The whole system was farcical given that one house master had gone there straight from Uni in 1974 and has been there since (Ubi you den!)

As time goes on I realise I have little in common with people who attended that institute save the fact that most of us Commissioned into technical Corps. What I do have is a readymade group of friends on every course or posting I've been on and that tends to get some very insecure types' backs up!

Now now, there are some nice welbexians......lets not tar everyone with the same brush. I have managed to overcome most of my prejudices against those from "Spellcheck".......!
