BUT!!!! Be prepared to negotiate - these boys are fantastic salesmen.
Quality very good on anything I've had from them but if they start off at a special price of £9,000 for a couple of suits and half a dozen shirts you know you should be down closer to £1500. And they will start off at something ridiculous, bless them.

Re: Suits from Hong Kong
Get thee to Slater Menswear! Branches up and down the UK.Can anyone give any tips on what style/colour etc of suit to go for. At the moment I am the not so proud owner of a crappy Next suit, and am looking to updating that part of the wardrobe department. Is pinstripe de-rigeur? What are the views on double breasted, 3 piece etc. What sort of price should you consider (bearing in mind that I am a stingy student, £200 is going to be stretching my pocket!)

I picked up a couple of three-pieces (not black!) for not much over £250. They will be tailored free of charge if required. The quality, range and service are unsurpassed (for off-the-peg) and the prices seem ridiculously low for what you get. The staff are well-trained and excellent at matching the clothing to the occasion.

Re: Tailor made shirts - advice.
As suggested a couple of times, I have made this 'sticky'.
My only condition is that the use of the word 'cheap' is not used out of context!
I will have short words with any officer claiming that they buy/wear 'cheap' clothes. Inexpensive will do!"In the absence of orders, go find something and kill it."

You don't have kids do you. Cheap is the only option.

Re: Suits from Hong Kong
I had couple of suits made by this guy in 2002. He advertises in Private Eye and, occassionally, the broadsheets.
http://www.raja-fashions.com/all.html
I rocked up to his hotel suite in Manchester, he measured me, took a couple of digital photos (crooked back, one leg shorter than the other, that kind of thing) and before I'd left the hotel he had emailed my measurements to his shop in HK. He has hundreds of swatches of material from across the price range and lots of colours for linings.
A few weeks later, 2 suits arrived. Very good quality wool, well cut and a good fit. £500 the lot, and I didn't have to go to HK.
The downside? No fitting to make sure it looked perfect on my beautiful body. Other than that, very happy. Recommended. And a darn sight cheaper than the thief Golding and better than anything that Slater Menswear have for sale.

You could try Sam's. www.samstailor.com Not the cheapest out there, but top quality and still mega cheap compared to Thieves & Hawles etc.

You can also have a fitting with this chap if you are prepared to wait until the next time he comes to your part of the world.

Bobby Raja in Bangkok on sukhumvit soi 11 is also worth considering. I've got the contact details at home and will post them later.
When I was based there with work I had a couple of suits and about a dozen shirts made there. He's definitely not a 24hr suit boy - the ones I had made up took a couple of weeks and are very good quality.

It was 17 years ago and I don't know if they are still there, but I had two suits made by Kong Leung, 31 Nathan Road, Kowloon, that were excellent and very reasonably priced - cheaper than Sam, actually. He trades on his name, I think.

Re: Tailor made shirts - advice.
I have a Pakeman's suit, in a really solid chalkstripe - it looks far more expensive that it really is, and the cloth is easily the most robust of any suit I've bought. Would really recommend them. I looked into their made to measure service (you'd have to to travel to Cirencester for the measuring). Was going to work out at £500-600 for a two piece suit with no extra trousers. If you're not a fan of Bertie Wooster-esque high waisted trousers, I would avoid Pakemans though.
Roderick Charles, throughtout the City and the West End, do a very good made to measure service, coming to about £600 for a sublime and really tough two pice suit with an extra pair of trousers. Huge choice of cloths and linings.
