Yes. 8 years ago I bought a great suit from Thieves on a brilliant offer (third off with the \times) and even after I made it clear I was skintish student they were very helpful. I went back in 2001 as less skint and wanting a DJ. I was in best scruffs, deckies, jeans and wax jacket. Having had brilliant service in Huntsman I then went to Thieves and some oik in a bad suit basically told me to foxtrot oscar. They have not had another penny of my hard earned pittance since.

Can someone please help me in search for Coles pattern shirts.........?

Don't buy anything from Gieves. Ever. There are far better tailors around with far less pretensions making far better garments, whether you are buying bespoke, made to measure or off the peg.

A word of warning - Bertie Woosters is in the process of shutting down.

I went there yesterday (the first time I've been) and was staggered by what they had on offer.
    I ended up buying:

    - an unworn, grey, 2 buttoned single breasted grey suit (with two pairs of trousers)
    - a covert coat
    - a Norfolk jacket

all for £250. He sold the suit initially for £75, then £175 for the Norfolk and the Covert. Extreme discounts. Would have bought more, but I can't see myself wearing a smoking jacket or a 3 piece Harris Tweed suit.

Out of interest, any idea how much the suit would have cost 'off the peg'? Just curious....

Can't see yourself wearing a 3 piece harris tweed suit, my dear boy, when wouldn't you? (sheer envy of one stuck in the sticks). When is Wooster's shutting, will their be life in the corpse at Easter?

Woosters website says it is under new management.

H & H have still got their sale on - 250 notes for a suit looked pretty good. Shame they don't do them in man size - bloody dwarvish tailoring!

Pakemans sale now on- but not much left, just some POW check suits, tweed and overcoats.
There's no chip on my shoulder. I'll tell you what there is though, three pips and don't you forget it.

Does anybody know of any guides to the civilian "orders of dress" as it were, on the internet if preferable? The only one I have been able to find is Wiki, and that can be changed by anyone at any time...

Gook, Debretts etiquette has a very general guide, but I think you would have to buy it.

I am sure the forum members could answer your queries.
