Don't knock Pakemans, their made-to-measure suits are superb! I recommend the sky blue cords and apple green jumper combo.

Anyone seen wearing their green and frankly monstrous smoking jacket needs shooting.

The safest bet is to have a wander down Jermyn Street and visit the more reputable establishments. Turnbull and Asser get my vote but they it really depends on budget etc. Haines and Bonner are a new mob setting up shops across the city but they seem to follow the Charles Tyrwhitt mode with crass things like your initials embroidered on your cuff etc

Pakemans are usually very good; I particularly like their 'barking mad' socks and tattersall waistcoat. I cannot, however, recommend their smoking jacket - I tried one and it was made of a lightweight material and fitted poorly. Clarke & Dawe in Belfast do a far superior version which is available in other colours.
Whatever next? They'll be making shirts with pockets, or buttoned cuffs, mark my words!initials embroidered on your cuff

Can only agree with the Pakeman's comment. I have been using them a good number of years and have never had a problem with any of their kit.
They have an outlet in Edinburgh now but the staff aren't a patch on the chap that used to work in their Perth franchise a few years back. Top bloke!

Sweetheart - Utility Lock - I can play 4 or 5 :D
I'm having trouble here - wondering what some of you lot wear on a regular basis - but it is amusing.
The whole embroidered initials thing seems to have hit Blighty then? I'm currently with our Italian bretheren and they get the initials embroidered about halfway down the front of the shirt 2 inches to the left of the buttons. Don't understand that one!
I only mentioned the Pakeman smoking jacket cos I'd not seen one anywhere else. New & Lingwood? 'king expensive shirts!
Anyone gone the whole hog & had bespoke shoes then?

My brother has and I have never heard a man eulogise about shoes in such a way! Worth every penny apparently but will spoil you for all other footwear.

Re: Tailor made shirts - advice.
Whilst in town, it's worth looking in on John Rushton Shoes at the bottom end of Wimpole Street (opposite the main entrance of the Royal Society of Medicine). All the good makes, and some fantastic prices. I bought a pair of (perfect) Alfred Sargent country shoes for £50, and he had Cheaney suede loafers at £95 and Barkers monk shoes for the same.

Other places worth considering;
Oliver Browns just south of Sloane Sq. Quite countrified but great kit.
For shoes, Shipton and Heanage are quite cheap.

How about Van Heusen shirts, pretty good quality.
As for shoes I have Church's and some Loakes. The Church's calf skin leather is very good.
BBR, does Herring Shoes have a web site you buy them from then, sounds interesting.

Re: Tailor made shirts - advice.
Like Mr_C_Hinecap, I am also a crab who cannot find shirts to fit (fat neck etc). Have managed to get decent civvy shirts tailored so at least the sleeves are the right length but struggle to do the same with uniform ones. While I appreciate that I will still look like a sack of s*it tied up in the middle, can any of you sartorial gurus suggest a source of decent miliatry shirts (that isn't Thieves & Hawkes)
