Discuss Legion Of Frontiersmen? at the NOW That's What I Call ARRSE 1 forum within the The Army Rumour Service website; Another fight, or have you kissed and made up?...
Unfortunately I can't make it on 16 July. Nevertheless, I'm confident that LOFIC will be well represented.
I did not expect that you would. The MoD is probably shut on Sundays and all the filing cabinets locked, with you safely tucked away at the back in a buff folder marked Top Secret - Do not open - EVER!!! :D :D :D
Crusader,
I prefer to give the benefit of the doubt. If "LOFIC" says that he is unable to attend, why belittle him? You gave little notice while being completely unaware of his personal circumstances.
It is unfortunate that he cannot attend, but hopefully you will be able to meet some of these members that he mentions. Perhaps then our groups can begin to reconcile and work toward forming one strong Legion of Frontiersmen again.

Rick,
If I thought for one minute that LOFIC actually existed in UK, never mind London (which is where I am) I would be the first to offer the hand of friendship. I am confident that there is no such organisation but if there is, I challenge any member at any time and at any place, to present himself, or to pm me to arrange a meeting. Cant be fairer than that, can I? (I will probably find that it is Cpl Ripper after all) :D

All that has happened since then is a change of title from Legion of Frontiersmen of the British Empire to Legion of Frontiersmen of the Commonwealth and more recently to Countess Mountbatens Own Legion of Frontiersmen. There has never been any break in historical continuance.
And unilaterally changed the cap badge?
Not me Guv'nor. A big boy did it and ran away!
Seriously though, very few of us are happy with this new cap-badge which seems to have been designed and agreed by the dysfunctional Executive Committee without any discussion with the membership at large. It is horrible and tacky! I wore my original (as shown as your avatar) until very recently, and only changed it when ordered to do so by the Commandant General personally.
I've seen the reproductions that the LF(CIF) wear here in Canada. They are gold-tone plastic looking things, and look somewhat cheap and unprofessional in my opinion. The LF(CMO) has taken to wearing fabric badges as a replacement, but in my opinion this looks quite unprofessional as well.
I would rather do without a hat badge at all than wear something that is not proper. The RCMP do not wear a hat badge on their stetson when in full ceremonials, so why should the Frontiersmen?
(Much of the LF uniform is very similar to the RCMP, and for good reason. The founder of the Legion of Frontiersmen was a member of the North West Mounted Police, who were the forerunners of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police....)

A bit of a tricky one, Rick. The new hat badge that we have been issued with over here is pressed brass and not very professional looking at all, unlike the original which was perfectly acceptable. We also have wire-woven badges for officers caps and berets, but all other-ranks wear the metal or staybrite version up to the rank of WO1.
All ranks wear a metal badge on our Stetsons, except for very senior officers, who wear a large woven badge. I agree with you that it is unnecessary, but it is in our Dress Regulations and so it really is not for us to decide whether to wear it or not. I do not like it, but I comply. Maybe when we have a change of leadership things will change, but until then we will just have to get on with it.
Crusader, sorry for accidentally outing your Dinsdale persona. Enjoying this thread immensely....... mainly because the mention of the hallowed ground that is Horse Guards still gives my twitcher a surge of blood.
If I'm doing nowt on the 16th, I may pop up and see you all. Any excuse to wear a blue red blue tie and shiny shoes.
Will you be able to provide timings nearer the date if I can make it?

Happy to provide timings now. I am not sure exactly what time the parade starts, but we have to be in position for around 10.00. You will see loads of people, Standard Bearers, Veterans Associations etc milling around waiting for the Marshalls to tell us when to get on parade. It is usually a bit chaotic, but we get there in the end.
Please do not expect the Brigade of Guards or even the Home Guard or a reasonably well-polished fire-guard. None of us have paraded together, we do not have any rehearsals, do not know what orders will be given and do not even know how many or who will be on parade, apart from the Parade Commander, so it really is all invented on the spot. It makes life "interesting"
After the parade, we always go to the Clarence for a few jars to wash the dust out. I look forward to seeing you there.
