Well, Crusader, I suggest you read your own history web page - then get it corrected (start with the contradictions). Your next task is to justify why the Boy Scouts of America started the fight against Hitler because one of their members joined the RAF.

The LoF may have very laudible aims, and some nice (indeed, brave) blokes over the years. It is coming over as a bit naff in its present state - get someone else to the the PR if you want a more positive spin put on their place in the modern world.

Why would you not appear in history books then?

    Is it a big conspiracy?
I really cannot say. Like you, I am a product of the 20th century, not the 19th and I have no idea at all why some things are recorded and others not. However, I suppose it is safe to say that if I was writing a history of the British Army in World War One, I would correctly record those Regiments who were involved and identify which was the first in action.

The Legion of Frontiersmen was not recognised as a Regiment, although they did form the 25th Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers and they did constitute a large percentage of PPCLI, and they did contribute to the numbers of the Austalian Light Horse, and they did die at Gallipoli, and Est Africa and other unpleasant places.

When all others are recognised and honoured for their service, why should the Frontiersmen be segregated and dishonoured for theirs?

I am happy to say that I have no involvement whatsoever in issuing medals, nor would I wish to. Interesting that you mention the Sunday car boot sale though, as I am only aware of one unit in UK which does that, to earn some money for their unit funds. I am NOT part of that unit.

    Thank you.

In order to set the record straight and to play on a level pitch, some background about me:

I joined the Regular Army in 1965 and spent over 24 years with the Colours, during which time I wore two different cap badges and spent some time with foreign forces, followed by TA service after I retired from the Regs. I volunteered for most war-zones and was accepted, with my last conflict being the first Gulf War.

I first heard of the Frontiersmen when a colleague asked me to check them out as he was thinking of joining. It was my vague recollection that they were something like a military equivalent of Biggles, England and Empire, King and Country and all that Boys Own Paper kind of stuff. I also thought that they were long extinct. However, I did as I am sure some of you may have done and I checked with the RMP and other intelligence sources, who reported back that they were alive and well and living in Bexleyheath. Also that they were a harmless bunch of cranks, mainly elderly, who paraded in uniform for Remembrance Day but did little else.

From this information I located them and applied to join, was accepted and the rest is history.

In all honesty, they really are harmless and if there are any rabid nationalists or other weridos, I do not know of them. Any who have appeared in the past have been quickly identified and shown the door.

So, what do I get out of it?

Comradeship (believe it or not) since there are many ex-military personnel, not all geriatrics, and the chance to use the skills which I learned over many years and which do not go away.

I also enjoy attending public parades in uniform (OK so most squaddies hate it) and being of some use to my community if ever needed.

Not much to ask and certainly no reason to slag us off, but I do understand the natural military tendency to question and mistrust that which they do not understand.

    Interesting stuff. Thanks for this.

My fiRst comment has to be that I do not know who published this page but it is rubbish and certainly NOT ASSOCIATED WITH US.

One jump will not qualify any of our members for their wings, yet this site indicates that it does.
Maybe three goes on the fan (jump simuulator) at an army show will also qualify?

They also say that they were formed in 1906. We were formed on Christmas eve, 1904 and celebrated our centenary year during 2004/5 with our main parade being in London in April 2005.

Finally, they claim to have beenm formed by one Roger Peacock. I dont know who he is, but we were formed by Roger Pocock.

Please do not confuse us with them...whoever they are.

Timing is everything. If you're early, you're on time. If you're on time, you're late. If you're late, you're fucked.

A prosthetic hand? No, I lost it in Mexico, but I have had a few pathetic hands at cards.
