Re: Nimby neighbours war with wounded soldiers families
Nothing short of a disgrace. They should be taken on a tour of the wards in Headly Court, and shown what these lads have given for this country, and then soundly beaten with a shi**y club around the head. Twa**

[quote="Victorian_Major"]The giveaway is in the banner at the top of the page - The Daily Hate. This story neatly combines their fetish for the housing market with rabble-rousing stories (i.e. lies) about the Forces.
Are you some sort of fcuking commie?? Or do you work for the MOD?

Re: Nimby neighbours war with wounded soldiers families
I shall be emailing the council. I will keep it polite - but the Daily Mail are so good at winding me up - I really want to get down there to "TALK" and "REASON" with the locals. Beyond belief, I really hope this story picks up and these people are exposed for being the sad/selfish examples of humanity that they are.

Re: Nimby neighbours war with wounded soldiers families
If it's true, it sounds like someone needs their face running down a brick wall. Deeply selfish, deeply angering. If I had a manky caravan and a dog on a string, I'd be very tempted to take a trip down there and bivvy-up outside the house for a while. Makes me sick.

Re: Nimby neighbours war with wounded soldiers families
Victorian_Major is merely pointing out that this story is currently only being quoted in the Daily Mail, and as such should not be taken as gospel, nor should it be taken at face value.
It is not exactly beyond the Daily Mail to mislead readers, or mispresent a story. It's possible that nothing has occurred as described. Alternatively, it's possible that this is really what has happened.
If this IS what has happened, then I too am outraged by the snobbish behaviour of these people. Clearly they have no understanding of what the forces go through at the whim of British Governments.
No, I'm not a commie.

Re: Nimby neighbours war with wounded soldiers families
I think the security aspect is just a front, as they would probably want some one living there of note rather than a bunch of disabled soldiers, and NO I am not having a go at the soldiers but just some peoples very narrow minds

Re: Nimby neighbours war with wounded soldiers families
many of the residents are not prepared to be quoted, be interesting to see if they are willing to stand and be named in an public enquiry.

Beneath contempt.
I shall resist the urge to sh*t through thier letter boxes, have drunken partys on their front lawn, leaving empty Special Brew Tins and used crack pipes in the street.
What the fook do they expect from families visiting their loved one's in hospital?
VB has a good point though, pity that yet again we have to rely on charity to give that which the MOD and Senior CoC is unable, unwilling or incapable of providing.

Read my post carefully you muppet. I clearly state that if this story is true then it is shocking.

So, as I say, I would like to see it independently reported elsewhere first before I believe it. Then I too will be making representations.

Re: Nimby neighbours war with wounded soldiers families
I emailed this to Mr Paul Le Versha who is Chaiman of Ashstead residents association:
Dear Mr Le Versha
I am writing to you with regard to an article that appeared in The Daily Mail website on 15/7/07 www.dailymail.co.uk/pa...ge_id=1770. I am aware that "The Mail" is a newspaper that is designed to raise indignation, however I think in this context it is entirely justified.
I served my country in Iraq in 03/04 and saw many British and American soldiers who were injured. The American soldiers on returning home could at least look forward to a hero’s welcome and the best healthcare in perpetuity. The British soldiers on returning home have certainly had no hero's welcome but at least have access (when space is available) to places such as Headly Court where their hardworking staff can alleviate some of the pain and suffering.
Many of the British soldiers, sailors and airmen who have lost limbs, faces and bits of their brain are very, very young. Some would say too young. I would say that many of those injured soldiers are the same age as many of the youngsters who are still living at home in Ashstead and who's parents are opposing the purchase of a residential home in proximity to Headly Court so that soldiers parents can visit and nurture what remains of their young sons and daughters.
I would urge you as Chairman of the Ashstead residents Association to be compassionate and understanding. The name of Ashstead is already becoming associated with an anti forces feeling in the UK, now would be a good opportunity to show that your community cares for those very young people who have been a shining example of just how good and decent the youth of Britain can be. These lads and lasses have had much of their future removed from them; please do not make the situation worse by denying their families the ability to see them.
Please have some compassion for our injured service men and women and support the purchase of the residential home and its related usage with Headly Court.
Yours Sincerely
I hope it gets the point across.

"These people should be ashamed of themselves!
These boys in hospital have given away their everything but their lives for this country!
The least these people can do is offer them an opportunity to see their families.
God forbid oil-exectives and other high rollers should have to mingle with honest working men and women!
- Peter Rafferty, Swansea, Wales, UK"
Hear hear, the amount of energy these residents have to oppose this would go well to things that really mattered. Selfish barestards the lot of em. They should be really ashamed of themselves.

Nicely worded Farmboy. Will you post the response?
As I said in my first post, lets wait to see if this story is as true as it is made out. If it is then it is another case of how those who have benefited most by the sacrafice of others seem to care the least. The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.

Will do 762. As you say I'm sure that the story has been through "The Mail" machine, however I'm equally sure that there is plenty of truth there too. Let's see what response we get.

Re: Nimby neighbours war with wounded soldiers families
Every single person who as complained should be named and shamed .But residents apparently do mind. They have flooded the council with almost 100 letters of protest, raising every conceivable objection to the new property being used to house families visiting soldiers.
They claimed 'additional noise' and 'huge amount of additional traffic' would ruin the peace of the private lane and warned that the value of their multi-million-pound properties would plummet.
The families 'would not be welcome', they said, and their arrival could 'destroy the character' of the area.
They should be deeply ashamed of themselves our soldiers fight for queen and country and this is the way in which our soldier's and there familys are treated .
I expect not one person as served in the armed forces who is complaining .
The people who are complaining may have the money to buy material things to keep them happy .
But the one thing our soldiers and their family have is love and respect from the british public ,which is one thing that these people wont be getting .
I have never heard such narrow minded opinions from people in my life .
