You are an old sweat when your receive your discharge documentation 39.5 years after you left the recruiting office to enlist. Oh happy days!

I used a Short Lee Enfield in the cadets before I joined the army. Bloody hell that was (ahem) years ago (aghast smiley). Mainly cleaning the bloody thing, we didnt get much chance to fire them.

Re: How do you know when you are an old sweat?
Cloth covered water bottles were 37 pattern matey not 44.
The 44 was ally (alluminium) with an ally mug attached and the 58 bottle was black nylon with a black nylon mug.
Hilarious watching sprogs trying to make abrew on a hexi burner with a 58 mug like we used to in Borneo with the 44 pattern mugs and when Singapores armour defences were MK3 Cents with 20pdrs last used in Korea.
