I had a suspicion that this was a windup. Now I know it is. I call a WAH.

The Major said "Milligan, how long have you been in this man's Army?" I said "About 5 foot 11 inches"

It's okay in the Intelligence Cell as it can hardly be classed as an intelligent thread!

    Thank you.

No, you do not 'owe' me anything due to my age (except perhaps that oldies of my generation kept the barrack-room flame burning so that you would have an army to inherit).

So the past Government would have binned the armed forces without your generation. Doesn't make sense.

As for your assertion that we did nothing worthy of a medal, may I remind you that the Cold War is by common consensus considered the most dangerous period in WORLD HISTORY. My service may not count for much in your opinion, sunshine, but I contributed my part to the defence effort (NATIONAL SERVICEMAN, 112 COY RASC, CAITHNESS BKS, VERDUN, B.A.O.R, 1955 TO 1957). I have the greatest of respect for todays soldiers but the sacrifices of the past should not be forgotten.

RASC? Most dangerous period in world history? You are a fcuking retard.

Perhaps you should get your knees brown before jumping down the throat of your old and bold comrades, sonny jim.

Sorry. I've only been on eleven operational tours. How many did you say you've done again?
You are by some considerable margin one of the rudest individuals I have come across in a long time. Believe me, the Paras (assuming that's what you are) of the 50s would have boxed your ears rather than put up with any such nonsense. It seems that politeness and reserve have died a death along with so much else in this once great nation...

I am sure that your 'operational tours' were hard slogs but believe me, service in the early days of the cold war was no joke either. Constant exercises, the threat of the Soviets getting up to mischief - even elements of the local population were hostile. A case in point: one of our lads had to be sent back to Blighty thanks to having his foot DELIBERATELY run-over by a lemonade wagon. Those are the kind of things that you don't read about in history books (oh, sorry, I forgot - your generation knows it all)!!
Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh sorry you went and spoilt it
Excuse me? I'm sorry if you thought my message was directed at you. In any case, injuries on and off exercise were commonplace in North-West Europe and some of the incidents would perhaps suprise you.

Can we now get back to the point of this discussion? Has anyone found anything of value on the websites I posted?

Oh, for fucks sake! Are you taking the piss? This must be a Wah!!! Some of US served in the Cold War as well - and continued when the world went tits up and have been on pretty much constant tours for the last 15 years.

Coming here and bleating about the fact you got no medals - because you did no operational tours - is an insult to the many real soldiers who made the Army a career. Not like you who did it for the minimum time because you were forced into it.

You'll get no sympathy here old man.

Speaking for myself regarding this issue.
I did seven years in the Army when there was no conflict as such for the ordinary forces.
so what I,m trying to say is ...I didn't EARN any medals then and I don't want meaningless Badges now.
yeh yeh yeh, I know my spelling and typing is shyte.

Right - I am somewhat confused by the direction this is taking. Have I missed something?
