That'll be because he isn't a Geordie, but has one of those unpleasant accents found between Newcastle and Leeds that are neither Geordie or Yorkshire but some ghastly hybrid.

This includes Sunderland, Boro, Darlo etc.

Was it ever up for debate? If you're north of Birmingham you are only fit for the most basic of tasks, breathing, swallowing and the like.
