Sylvia was so pleased she had managed to finish that knitting pattern the kind Mr Turing had given her. She was going to reward herself with a lovely rosy red apple from the bowl on his desk. She was sure he wouldn't mind and if he did say anything, she would just flutter her eyelashes at him and give him her great big smile - that worked with all the blokes! Someone in the office had said Mr T was a bit queer but she couldn't see anything odd about him.

Thiomas Babington Macaulay, quoted by Admiral of the Fleet Lord Fisher of Kilverstone: 'Moderation in war is imbecility!'

She'd teach The Lone Ranger to wipe his cock on her curtains!
We need people who look to the stars, holding the nation and the world in their hearts but at the same time we need down-to-earth people who can do serious and trying work.

In a definite sense, a country's power and prestige isn't only a reflection of its economic power but also a reflection of its people's quality and morality. Moreover, I think the latter is actually more important in the long-term.

It wasn't the name of the airline that was the basis of her claim to be second woman on the balcony but that she'd understudied the role of Juliet.

The marks out of 10 for Carrot's performance varied somewhat. Well, you can't please them all.

"As we moved slowly through the outskirts of the town we passed row after row of little grey slum houses running at right angles to the embankment. At the back of one of the houses a young woman was kneeling on the stones, poking a stick up the leaden waste-pipe which ran from the sink inside and which I suppose was blocked. I had time to see everything about her - her sacking apron, her clumsy clogs, her arms reddened by the cold. She looked up as the train passed, and I was almost near enough to catch her eye."
