Latest figures I saw quoted for England were that in 2009, those that took illegal drugs in the previous year had fallen to 4.4 million (down from 5.6 in 1996)

I saw him on TV attacking Clare Gerada the head of the Royal college of GP's. I'm afraid he made himself look silly. The 12 step recovered addicts often refuse to believe other methods work. Well done Dr Gerada for not losing her cool, she's a very lovely and knowledgeable lady.

What about those that have been abused and battered for their most formative years? The many that have been sexually abused, abandoned, exposed to horrific surroundings, dragged from home to home, those that remain uneducated? that have had no guidance, no grasp on reality? and who know very little of kindness? What about those that are tipped out onto the pavement as soon as they are old enough with a check-list of applicable service providers, a number for the DSS and the crisis loans line and a few quid in their back pocket? Not saying its the same for all, far from it but behind every face there in lies a story. Or does the 'kill em all' response also apply to the 60 year old confirmed Falklands vet who staggers around Leeds off his nut on brown and ale who can periodically be seen sucking from a gas canister on the steps of the town hall?
And lets not forget the many reports that render drug use as an important part of our economy, millions and millions of pounds are generated by this industry, let it flourish I say.Last edited by Carlos_Sanchez_IX; 18-08-2012 at 20:30.

I agree there are always a few cases like that, The same argument can be used against the "send then all home to their own country" lot , then they say, "oh but not Patel at the corner shop, hes a good un!"
The majority though, wouldnt be missed by anyone, except their dealer.Brace up, show the movement!

True, my Ma runs a few projects in the North, she is pretty cool and she has taken a strange route from being a registered nurse to an Occupational Therapist and is now a Project Manager for a drugs and alcohol charity, the stories she tells me are unreal, some people really have received the complete shittiest end of the proverbial stick, she has worked with murderers, sex offenders, paedophiles, rapists, thieves and in her words, 'those that are seemingly beyond saving usually are', which was quite prophetic, ie, the complete 'head the balls', I never knew what a wet house was until she told me, never mind a dry house. There are thousands of these people, spread across our city's but one stark point she made to me was that the influx of those claiming former military service had increased two fold, make of that what you will but does the 'fuck em all' party line extend to those that have served as well? Makes you wonder where the line is drawn doesn't it?

At the risk of being controversial, I've never looked for special treatment or exemptions for having served and been shot at, nor has anyone I know who I esteem. In my experience, those who rate assistance generally self-medicate in private and move heaven and earth to hold things together in public - to their ultimate detriment. How many of those claiming former service have actually served or were worthwhile members of the military community when they did?
Sorry, but I don't wonder where the line's drawn at all - 'I was a soldier' and 'you weren't there man' is, more often than not, the pitiful whinge of a terminal knob looking for excuses. The people who really need help generally keep it quiet until it's too late - the idea that time spent in uniform somehow gives us a free pass for all future transgressions is ridiculous.

My Service Career and work ethic - Too much a poof for the SAS, too lazy for P Coy, too sea sick for the Marines, too inept for anything vaguly glamourous, but not too scared to ask that fat MT lass to dance down the bop.
