Perhaps the first loophole they should close is the one that enables MPs to earn six figure incomes and yet pay, on average, 6% income tax. Anybody else would pay 50% on an MP's income.
Until they start leading by example, politicians have no place telling anybody that they're not paying enough tax.ArRSe is the Hotel California - You can log-out any time you like, but you can never leave!

Of all the cockeyed schemes Gordon Brown came up with, fucking up all of our pensions must be his crowning glory. What a useless Shit-for-brains cunt that man is.

Let me get this right.
Gary et al didn't break the law.
They paid the minimum tax the were legally required to.
You and I pay the minimum tax we are required to through PAYE. I'm not volunteering to pay an extra 20% and neither are you!
Instead of bitching governments should make tax simpler so there are fewer rules to manipulate: single, flat tax rate.It was good while it lasted.

This isn't a new story to be honest. Tax avoidance schemes are a well known practice. What is new is that a few names have been thrown into the frame and some financial figures quoted. Because of that, suddenly there is a huge display of outrage including from some leading figures from this government. Now that is a joke!
Those people who are doing it are not doing anything unlawful and let's be honest, if anybody on here was pulling in that kind of dosh, they would do the same. I would!
So that said, it is lawful but if we take into account the good governance and fiscal future of the country as a whole, is it really the right thing to allow to happen. No, I don't think so. It highlights the inequity of the tax system and given that, these loopholes need sorting out urgently to restore the confidence of the public that the public purse is financed fairly with the huge earners actually paying the percentage of their earnings that they really would be without these avoidance schemes.Last edited by rgjbloke; 21-06-2012 at 09:14.
I was a good runner in the mob. I alway's liked to think I could get out of trouble quicker than what I got into it!
