Aged about 5
I write down everything I want to remember. That way, instead of spending a lot of time trying to remember what it is I wrote down, I spend the time looking for the paper I wrote it down on.

I have researched this and you are quite right. Non-digital photos were processed originally in water. Problem is not the water but the mold that develops. Best thing is:
1) before freezing wash off the worst of any dirt/soot
2) Package in manageable packets and freeze
3) One package at a time put the frozen block of photos in a sink and thaw and wash in lukewarm or cold water, not hot.
4) do not be tempted to peel pictures apart, just keep them under water and keep water flowing if possible
5) when thawed, clean and separated place pictures image side up on a smooth surface such as a kitchen counter and let dry at room temperature, gentle airflow from a fan might help.
Books can also be salvaged by freezing.
A number of years ago I had to write a brochure on this and got information from conservation staff at a major university library (largest university library in the world). They maintain specialized freeze drying equipment for their own collection.
If in doubt, freeze the stuff and get adviceNuair a chacann caora, cacann siad uilig

I can't put a pic up as he's likely on here somewhere and would definitely kill me but I can't get over how much of a dead ringer for my brother you are. Your dad wasn't a milkman was he? :)

Me and our neighbour, Cookie. She was lovely and I kissed her when I was eight. This is ca.1966 in Switzerland... she sent me some pics of herself (clothed) last year and she's still delicious.
