    And Ahnold:

"A democracy cannot survive as a permanent form of government. It can last only until its citizens discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority (who vote) will vote for those candidates promising the greatest benefits from the public purse, with the result that a democracy will always collapse from loose fiscal policies, always followed by a dictatorship." In the career of glory one gains many things; the gout and medals, a pension and rheumatism....all of these fatigues experienced in your youth, you pay for when you grow old. Because one has suffered in years gone by, it is necessary to suffer more, which does not seem exactly fair.

Its Camoflage Paint scheme was so expertly applied that it appeared invisible to me. Sorry, I hope this wont affect my No Claim Discount.

Whats that handy little thing hovering off the stern quarter?
Haven't had an accident in years. See a lot in my rear view mirror though.

Lets just call it an AV-8B. If we use the name the mods will get upset about another thread on that aircraft.

Awesome ships though. Essex was in Japan last year after the earthquake and if I recall correctly the Rear Admiral in charge of the group of ships that came in to help had her flag quarters on Essex. Huge asset for humanitarian relief. Helo, berthing space (~1900 bunks above ships company), comms, power, potable water production. Wasp-class have a large medical area as they be supporting USMC in landings. I know similar ships were a huge help after Katrina hit the gulf coast.

Yep. They can take a bigger mixed air wing than OCEAN, as you said shed loads of Marines, you can launch fixed wing (no names)

After Katrina they were used to provide berthing, food, pure water, bathing for emergency workers who came in to help. Their medical area is huge with emergency room, operating rooms, ICU, sick bay beds. The well deck (back doors) can bring in LCU's and LCM's. A grad school classmate was the air boss on one and I got a thorough tour when he came to town in his ship.

After Japan quake I saw a TV interview with the lady who was flag officer of the USN ships there. She impressed and her task group impressed.
