Excise duty on (normal strength) beer is charged at £19.51 per percent of alcohol per hectolitre (100 litres). The table above gives the amount of Excise Duty per pint (dep on ABV).
As you can see, for a 500ml can of Stella the Excise Duty is c£0.975ppl. Almost half of what the Scottish Parliament is proposing.
If you accept that what they are doing is the right thing - it doesn't go far enough. If you don't then I can't see what you're complaining about because the beer should have borne the correct amount of duty in the first place (and smuggling beer and selling at below duty rates is one of the reasons why the pub trade is dieing.)Guinness. It's the first food group.

Oh Gawd!
Bottom line is that if you're a plonky, you'll buy it at any price to stop the shakes. "Giz yer bag, you old cow, cos I need a drink, mother".
People will carry on buying it for social or medical needs regardless of the price.
The best thing they could do is make Librium available without prescription, so you can dry out without having your GP take your driving licence off you.
How many alcoholics know that they can be shopped to the DVLA just by going to get help from their GP?

For example, one imperial pint (568 ml) of beer at 4% ABV contains:

The formula uses ml ÷ 1000. This results in exactly one unit per percentage point per litre, of any alcoholic beverage.
Since 4% can be expressed as .04, .04 × 568 ml gives the amount of alcohol in terms of ml—which, when divided by 10, shows the number of units.
When the volume of an alcoholic drink is shown in centilitres, determining the number of units in a drink is as simple as volume × percentage (converted into a fraction of 1).
Thus, 75 centilitres of wine (the contents of a standard wine bottle) at 12% ABV contain:

Did you come from somewhere on a bus? So many nurses didn't, there must be thousands of you sat in buses stranded down dark country roads, and never made the NAAFI dance. 1968 was a good year for nurses at the Belford in Fort William, vintage I think would be a fair description of that crop. I don't suppose you were ever at the Belford, or took part in the fur coat and nae knickers party?
Shame, I am trying to get any photos that might still be out there.

Wrong!!!! It has nothing to do with putting more money into healthcare, and we won't be leaving the NHS. It is all to do with Il McDuce wanting to control everyones lives.
Buckfast isn't included in it as it is already over the price limit to be included.
The money collected from this shambles is NOT a tax, it will NOT go into the Scottish Government coffers, it will go into the profit column of the supermarkets. I don't know why English posters are mocking this, Westminster is also implementing it with the backing of the Labour party. Booze is the least of our problems, politicians are FAR more damaging to society than drunks. If the authorities enforced the current laws then there would be no need to introduce this stupid law.

Calm down ladies, it is against the law in the EU, so unlikely to happen. BTW how can Labour support it in England but not in Scotland? Is the phone line broke?
It is warm work and this day may be the last to us at any moment, but mark you! I would not be elsewhere for thousands.
