    Very, very brave man.
I first met Trevor at a 1 PARA mess do in the 80's. Lovely chap who loves red wine.
More recently I watched him deliver a presentation about the whole siege. Proper old school, no powerpoint - a cassette of slides. Proper gent and brave man.
:This is the worst part. The calm before the battle.
:And then the battle is not so bad?
:Oh, right. I forgot about the battle.

People sleep soundly in their beds because rough men stand on street corners ready to do violence on thier behalf.

Seagul is right on that. Police shoot to neutralise a threat, not to kill. If that only way to neutralise that threat, is to kill the offender, then so be it, and some people shot will die as a result of being shot. A shoot to kill policy, dictates that the officer taking the shot intends to kill the target and won't consider any less than lethal options, de-escalation of a situation, or provide medical care to them. This clearly isn't the case with the police, and probably also for large parts of the military in our current commitments (the option for this is much less however because of the massively increased risk to the troops involved)

However, Seagull if you've got a point, make it, otherwise I'm going to ignore the slanging match, as I can't be bothered with it. The reason I don't see Windsor as such a bad thing, is that it aims to get rid of all the lazy fuckers, and to improve fitness levels, and because i won't lose out massively on the new system. If I had 24yrs in, I would feel differently. The police are going to lose this battle though, because we can't argue properly. Federation just whip up a storm of rhetoric and organise a march. How about sitting down and doing a bit of give and take. Double time for bank holidays is hard to justify, but double time for any overtime hours done after say a 12hour shift, or OT after 0400 would be easier, and more useful to us in many ways. Pensions are going to take a hit. It's not just us, it's all public sector, and like they say, if you don't like then go an chat to someone in the private sector and then rethink your situation.. We need to accept this and take it as a hit, but be gracefull and use it to knock something else off the table - maybe putting conditions on the redundancy scheme. I don't think that would be used overly anyway, look at A19, most forces didn't use it because it wasn't cost effective and you lost fully trained and often keen and competent cops. If you disagree with this, give me your opinion and I'll genuinely be interested to hear why.

Or is the military ROE and Law so much different?
I'd think the old JSP 385 is the nearest equivilent on UK mainland.

For those non literate in police jargon, reg A19 is the forced retirement of officers after 30 years service: https://meetings.gmpa.gov.uk/documen...ixA_Policy.pdf

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, camel blue in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming WOW!!! WHAT A RIDE !!!!!!!!!!!
