Funny you should mention Fliss Kendall, because her old buddy from 'The Good Life', Penelope Keith, founded the SAS.
Ms. Keith signed up with the ATS at the start of the war, but when she found out that she couldn't go in to combat she went AWOL and signed up with the Scots Guards using the nom de guerre 'David Stirling'.
The rest as they say, is history.
I have it on good authority that Broon had to have an arsehole transplant.
Unfortunately the arsehole rejected him."YOU - Assume the position!"

The last Defence Secretary to have served was of course Tom King (National Service commission with the Somerset Light Infantry / King's African Rifles). Was still bloody useless, mind.
