How's about the War of the Triple Alliance? On the face of it pretty dull, fought as it was between between a bunch of sweaty South American types, but it boasts the highest number of casualties as a proportion of population of any war. The wiki article reckons that 60-70% of the entire population of Paraguay was killed. If that was the UK now my fag packet calculation makes that 42 million deaths.

The 1847 war between the Teke and M'Bochi tribes in The Congo. The war was about disputed land claims that arose due to an unpaid dowry, cattle rights and a cut of the harvest the next year. The Teke successfully invaded the village of M'naga, scalped the chief and cut off all his limbs as a message. this infuriated the M'Bochi who decreed that all males born from then onwards had a duty to kill all Teke. The war lasted 8 months until a compromise was reached which involved 3 virgins, some goats and the Teke chief's 3 daughters.

War of the Stray Dog, between Bulgaria and Greece, 1925. Started (Allegedly) when a greek soldier chased a stray dog across the boprder, and a Bulgarian border guard shot him. Only lasted about 10 days, resulting in the Greeks being condemned by the League of Nations for invading Bulgarian territory and having to pay a fine of 45,000.
