Just downstream from the bridge (i.e. to your right) there are rocky rapids. When I was a kid only boys would jump of the bridge but now girls do too.

When I started taking the pics a young man asked "Excuse me sir! You aren't taking those for the police are you?" The local plod discourage jumping and they paused in their jumping until reassured that I was not going to turn them in.

We have a bridge near us in a place called Llangollen(don't even try to pronounce it) and people have jumped off it for years. However, you have a small area (approx four foot) from which to jump. Jump outside this area and your dead. It's about twice the height of the one in your pictures and you jump into a small gulley with hidden rocks either side. If you jump, the local plod will fish you out and then arrest you. I did it on a school trip about 27 years ago, I couldn't do it today for a million quid.

And this you can see is the bolt. The purpose of this
Is to open the breech, as you see. We can slide it
Rapidly backwards and forwards: we call this
Easing the spring. And rapidly backwards and forwards
The early bees are assaulting and fumbling the flowers:
They call it easing the Spring.
They call it easing the Spring: it is perfectly easy
If you have any strength in your thumb: like the bolt,
And the breech, and the cocking-piece, and the point of balance,
Which in our case we have not got; and the almond-blossom
Silent in all of the gardens and the bees going backwards and forwards,
For today we have naming of parts.
