So the narrative is emerging that the police in Manchester were 'heavy-handed' in their dealings with the rioters? - if this concerns the footage from Sky News which I posted yesterday then I would commend the police for their actions...they ran down and forcefully subdued rioting/looting 'suspects' riding bicycles who attempted to get away. That they were 'heavy handed' merely reflected the seriousness and requirements of the situation.
I suspect that Ms. Chakrabarti has gone quiet because like a lot of PC grievance-mongers and apologists, she has been taken aback by the blatant criminality and violence of the past few days, which has robbed her of the usual ability to score ideological points. Although a pain in the arse, people such as Chakrabarti are shrewd enough to realise when public opinion is in no mood to listen to their usual line. For example, Yasmin Alibhai-Brown was onn Sky News yesterday, and usually she's quite strident and fortright, but she was at a loss to explain or excuse the recent violence. She was flapping - she knew it, the interviewer knew it, and I imagine that most viewers knew it aswell. Diane Abbott came across in the same manner, desperately trying to blame the situation on Tory cuts, despite the fact that the ineffectiveness of the police and the necessity for cuts are a direct result of 13 years of Labour mis-governance.Any statements I make while using this website are purely of my own opinion and are not to be construed as statements of fact and are not said with any intended malice. My opinions are a reflection of my earned right to freedom of expression and speech and do not necessarily reflect that of the site owners.

Camoron may be itching for the courts to make an example out of some offenders, but it'll only be to cover is own arrse and placate the rabid Daily Wail readers of the Home Counties. Many of those knicked will have been easy targets for plod, those who put their hands up, not the scum throwing bricks & starting fires. The bystanders who will have seen Currys being emptied and, I'm sure like many Arrsers, will have realised that someone is going to have it on their heels with all the electrical goods anyway, so it might as well be them.
Camoron may look tough on News at Ten, but the thugs watching on their new widescreens while swigging Bargain Booze's finest Pinot Grigio with their fellow yardies will still be laughing.
I'll reserve judgement on the Manc plod battering chavs on bikes. It didn't look justified by what we could see, but I don't really care. These kids need to learn that rioting isn't even a spectator sport and a truncheon round the legs is preferable to being burned or hit on the head by a brick a a means of inculcating that lesson. If Camoron & his cronies had set a curfew, the plod would have been in a position to lift them on sight instead of having to wait for them to take the piss.
Rant over, does anyone know how my Blackberry shares are doing?

She's not being a PC grievance monger at all.
She is simply stating that as a decent nation the rights we all have, and that define us as a reasonably free and fair society should not be jettisoned the instant we come under attack.
You are innocent until proven guilty, you have the right to a fair trial and the right to mount the best available defence.
Are you really proposing all that should go out of the window because somebody looted Liddles?
That's all she's saying, and I agree with her.'Where are the Snowdens of yesteryear'?

I love that footage.
I bet those little shits learnt more,in a few short minutes, about the nature of 'action and reaction' and respect for other peoples person, property and dignity than in the sum total of their entire lives previous.
Bravo plod, may the Gods keep you baton arms strong and your identities strangely ambiguous.I've got your mothers maiden name tattooed on my arm.

a senior Chinese officer has said, “all the great nations in the world own aircraft carriers – they are symbols of a great nation”. That’s why China has just commissioned its first. By the same token, to opt for a “carrier gap” of some years is to abandon your responsibilities.
