Para units get formed in 1940, at a time when line infantry are issued not with berets, but with big khaki bonnets, made out of the same fabric as their battledress, and constructed rather like the corbeen.

So there's all these cocky young lads with the finest red headdress money can buy, para pay, and all that testosterone pumping through their adolescent veins.

Obviously, the standard issue headdress looks to them like a cowpat, compared to their own dinky item of French ladies' wear.

Vanity, all is vanity.

As all Paras now are Air assault and are helicopter bourne, does that make them Helicopter Assault Troops?
