Nice place? Anywhere within the boundaries of the North York Moors. ...within 200yds of a pub, obviously. ...and out of site of RAF Fylingdales.
"Hurrah for the Works Group" just doesn't have the same ring...
"A volunteer is worth ten pressed men."
So, a TA battalion or nine Regular Guards battalions? Not a difficult choice, then (especially as we don't have nine Regular Guards battalions).

Ferring, W Sx - Tudor Close pub in fact; former resident boxer dog's fizzer had a champeen set of gnashers I recall, jutting out like Esther Rantzen and Janet Street-Porter's miracle love child!
"As we moved slowly through the outskirts of the town we passed row after row of little grey slum houses running at right angles to the embankment. At the back of one of the houses a young woman was kneeling on the stones, poking a stick up the leaden waste-pipe which ran from the sink inside and which I suppose was blocked. I had time to see everything about her - her sacking apron, her clumsy clogs, her arms reddened by the cold. She looked up as the train passed, and I was almost near enough to catch her eye."

Putties, are you trying to laugh about the pub in my village closing?
If not my fictional village, then St Bees. Purely for the fact that my brother lives there and knows everyone and you can see the seaside from his house and he's nails.
EODMatt, we were in Seaton Carew the other week to park for the Tall Ships thingy. You can keep that one thanks. Isn't it twinned with Widnes?"What goes on in the gym - stays in the gym". Fatbadge 061108 (Blowing out of his ricker)

Dale, you don't live on the North York Moors. To get there you'd have to travel more than 12 miles and cross 3 main roads. I don't think you'd be allowed to go. You may look at them, though.

Richmond's in Swaledale, Dale. That's in the Dales, Dale.
The Dales are nice, Dale, but I didn't include them because then I'd have to filter out places like Catterick and Bellerby."Hurrah for the Works Group" just doesn't have the same ring...

Can we not say that we like Stanley? I managed to get you some BFTs didn't I?
You are correct though, I do live in the Dales.

Stanley's OK, but I prefer the place that it's twinned with. The fish is fresher.

Woodcote in Oxfordshire. Lovely little village, pub from 1600's (more recent plumbing though). postboxes still have VR cypher.

Well, the cod in the Narrows Bar tasted as though it had been frozen. Wouldn't happen in Whitby. And as for the batter...

Penrith.
If you ignore the fact that it's the smackhead capital of NW England, a pleasant town:
plenty of decent pubs, easy access to motorways, only an hour or so from anywhere you're ever likely to want to go (ie, not darn saarf) and a variety of specialist shops full of stuff you didn't know you needed.
Also close enough to Catterick for a day out. If you wanted to.

Or try Googling "Republic of Sealand".
Not quite part of UK, not exactly Foreign.
At least their "king" thinks so.
