    Next we'll have recruits giving this excuse to DS as to why they're monging it with gary-Goretex hood up on stag.

    Fairplay though, unlike some humourless Koran / Bible bashers, this guy at least knows he's taking the piss.

The percentages of religious affiliations were:

    * Christian: 72.0%
    * No religion: 14.7%
    * Chose not to respond: 7.8%
    * Muslim: 3.1%
    * Hindu: 1.1%
    * Jedi: 0.79%

    It was confirmed prior to the census that citizens were not liable for a fine in relation to question 10 (on religion).[12] This was based on section 1(2) of the Census (Amendment) Act 2000,[13] which amended section 8 of the Census Act 2000 to state that "no person shall be liable to a penalty under subsection (1) for refusing or neglecting to state any particulars in respect of religion". The change in the law was implemented by The Census (Amendment) Order 2000[14] and The Census (Amendment) Regulations 2000.[15]

    Jedi was assigned its own code in the United Kingdom for census processing, the number 896.[16] Officials from the Office for National Statistics pointed out that this merely means that it has been registered as a common answer to the "religion" question. John Pullinger, Director of Reporting and Analysis for the Census, noted that many people who would otherwise not have completed a Census form did so solely to record themselves as Jedi, so this joke helped to improve the quality of the Census. The Office of National Statistics revealed the total figure in a press release entitled "390,000 Jedis there are".[17]

    In June 2005, Jamie Reed, newly-elected Labour Member of Parliament for Copeland in Cumbria, declared himself to be the first Jedi Member of Parliament during his maiden speech.[18] The statement, made in the context of an ongoing debate regarding the Incitement to Religious Hatred Bill, was confirmed by Reed's office to be a joke instead of a serious statement of faith. Nevertheless, during a subsequent Committee debate on the Bill, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Beaconsfield, Dominic Grieve, sought to exclude Jedi Knights explicitly from the protection of the proposed Act.[19] Similarly, in April 2006, Edward Leigh, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Gainsborough, asked whether he would be allowed to set up a Jedi knights faith school during a Committee debate on the Education and Inspections Bill.[20]

    On November 16, 2006, two Jedi delivered a protest letter to UN officials in recognition of the International Day for Tolerance. They requested that it be renamed the "UN Interstellar Day of Tolerance" and cited the 2001 Census showing 390,000 Jedi in England and Wales.[21]
    Yes, I put 'Jedi' as my religion in the census.
    Basically, as I said, not official religion - people just didn't get a bollocking for it.

    I would struggle to believe that jediism will be the basis of law and morality in 2000 years time.
    This is ten percent luck, twenty percent skill
    Fifteen percent concentrated power of will
    Five percent pleasure, fifty percent pain
    And a hundred percent reason to remember the name

    Funny that.

    2000 (ish) years ago someone said almost the exact thing about Christianity when posting on an unofficial Roman military website.
    I bought a military watch. It didn't tell me the time, it told me to get my hair cut.
    Scribbler of long and boring stories since 2006 with most of them chucked in HERE.

    Green or blue cardigan with vomit dribbled down the front and Lee Cooper jeans

    Shouldn't Cold War Warrior be classed as a religion?
    Amen to that Mr S :D
    Yeah though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death. I shall still be
    wearing my White T shirt and my tankard runneth over
    Catch a train to a plane
    to a place overseas.
    Over clouds over fields
    over rivers and trees.
    And they're serving me coffee
    to put me at ease.
    'Cos I'm drifting without you
    borne on the breeze.

    I beg to differ, there are things in the Bible that were fact, yes some was total bull like the ressurrection of Christ and parting of the waves however there was a meaning behind it all and a lot of is not meant to be taken literally.

    Jedi though is 100% rubbish because it is based on a script and those who chose to follow it are insane and need a reality check. The closest real religions to 'Jedi' are Paganism and Wiccan.
    It amazes me that so many followers of "traditional" religion are so hostile to a religion that promotes truth, honesty, purity of thought, loyalty, integrity and fellowship.

    Is the Jedi religion fiction? Many religions claim to be the one and only true religion, thus necessitating that all other religions are fictitious. In addition, although many religions claim to speak the word of God, but the truth is they are only the written word of prophets or followers of the religion. There is no way to prove or deny that what was written was the word of God. Several other religions openly admit that their text is not the word of God, and that it is only a prescribed behavior or a philosophy of life (e.g. Buddhism, Scientology). Most non fiction is a discussion of science and life, of things that can be observed, quantified and readily challenged for its truth and authenticity. But not religion. Any religion put to scrutiny is merely words on paper, with no ability to confirm its authenticity. The Jedi church makes no denial that its name and terminology originates from a fictitious past, but the concepts and ideals that are identified by Jedi followers are known for their innate truth. The sun existed before it was given a name, and it could be revered as a God, however, when the sun finally had a human name, it could be written about and communicated with others. The Jedi religion is just like the Sun, it existed before a popular movie gave it a name, and now that it has a name, people all over the world can share their experiences of the Jedi religion, here in the Jedi Church.

    So in summary, no religion is truth. It is all just a matter of faith.

    Aren't Jedis essentially monks though?

    ie they don't do marriage and they live without possessions relying on the goodwill and charity of others....

    Obviously this sponger has got the last bit, but I doubt he is living a single and possession free existance.
