Re: How to offend people in their own language..
Good idea, even less reason to go into the naafi. There's probably a number of websites which concentrate on homophobia and racism (some started by squaddies I imagine) so perhaps we should just moth ball the naafie and move out.

Re: How to offend people in their own language..
To carry on with the Wop theme. There are a coupla expressions that we use which are not actually normal in Wop society, but which are immediately understood. I've found that when I say: "Baccia il mio culo", quite literally: "Kiss my arse", I really get attention. Pronunciation guide: “Batscha eel meeyo koolow".
Because the Wop mentality is very similar to Brit, you can also say: "Sei un male nell culo" - "You're a pain in the arse". Pronunciation guide: “Say oon mahley nell koolow”.
These aren't actually slogans or sayings that are used on a daily basis in Italy, but every Wop understands them instantly and totally. And because they’re so rarely, or never, used, you have the special impact.
Of course, there are regional differences. The thread-through and sudden stop mandated by a double consonant in northern and classical Italian (baac!ca), is not that important the further south you journey. The "sounds" of a language are so very difficult to reproduce in text, so I beg forgiveness for that.

PS. Where’s MDN, by the way?

I'm told Cantonese speakers are even worse. We need people who look to the stars, holding the nation and the world in their hearts but at the same time we need down-to-earth people who can do serious and trying work.
In a definite sense, a country's power and prestige isn't only a reflection of its economic power but also a reflection of its people's quality and morality. Moreover, I think the latter is actually more important in the long-term.

Re: How to offend people in their own language..
There used to be a term used in Aden, pronounced 'Airy bumwack',not sure of spelling which roughly translated into 'go make love to your granny - vigorously'
Tanks are easily identified, easily engaged, much-feared targets which attract all the fire on the battlefield. When all is said and done, a tank is a small steel box crammed with inflammable or explosive substances which is easily converted into a mobile crematorium for its highly skilled crew."

Made me chuckle when I read it. :DThe harder the fighting and the longer the war, the more the infantry and in fact all the arms, lean on the Gunners - Field Marshal Montgomery.
