Re: Medals, medals and more medals ...
My OH was on the first phase of that exercise setting up and working in the field hospital. I could be wrong (FFS on this thread I have already been wrong in how I wear my medals/tie/belt/chins) but as I recall, the second phase coincided with the Afghanistan invasion and the field hospital went operational to receive casualties. Did this not qualify them for a medal?

Re: Medals, medals and more medals ...
They were all back by the time the invasion went in (ex lasted September and October 2001), however the RAF maintained a 'field hospital' there throughout the early Afghan deployment but that was as part of Op Veritas and not Saif Sareea.
The RAF surgeon that I later deployed to Sierra Leone with said that they spent the majority of their waking hours by the pool at the hotel they were staying in.
Ex Saif Sareea isn't mentioned in the list of Operations that count toward the award of the gong:
Op VERITAS, Op ORACLE, Op LANDMAN, Op BLEED, Op DETERM, Op SCOW, Op DAMIEN, Op LARVA, Op FINGAL, Op JACANA, Op JACANA, Op RAMSON, Op BANDOG and Op HERRICK

Re: Medals, medals and more medals ...
Cheers mate ... but, out of interest, did they maintain the same field hospital that was used for the exercise?

I'm not sure, but probably if it was next door to a 5 star hotel! :D

Right ... my buttons are on the right and fasten into a hole on the left ... male into female (I know that might be an alien concept to you). My stable belt fastens with the male on the right into the female on the left. Military webbing belts likewise. So my trouser belt fastens likewise. Because I am not living in medieval England and need to keep a sword in my fcuking hand. Go check out belts with decorative buckles or fcuking cowboy gun rigs ... all with the fcuking male bit poking into the female bit right to left.

Pedant hat on. Slight correction, Saif Sareea 2 lasted September to November 2001. Pedant hat off.

One od our screws has an ACSM and VRSM. Worth around £8k due to the rare combination, I'm told.
Bravo Bravo sets himself a depressingly low standard which he consistently fails to achieve.

Re: Medals, medals and more medals ...
A LE QM at RSA had an unusual set as his LS&GC was issued after he was commissioned and came engraved with his Officer number, which apparently made it quite valuable.

Even more so now that LEs stay with their original Regt No.

Re: Medals, medals and more medals ...
The bar will come sooner than you think - qualifying period for ACSM is dropping from 3 to 2 years so if you have 5+ years you will get your bar without even having to leave the NAAFI
