Re: Medals, medals and more medals ...
Hmmm. Not all residential tours in 'Slipper City' were 'cushty' you know.

Re: Medals, medals and more medals ...
I'll bet there are - you just give up the MBE if you get an OBE and move up the 'order' don't you? You certainly wouldn't put MBE, OBE after your name. Or even OBE, MBE, or any other random order of O,B.E and M.

Re: Medals, medals and more medals ...
And while I am at it, in my mind the ACSM was set up for a outstanding reasons, i.e to recognise soldiers who had spent extended periods on operations, however, quickly became a Northern Ireland residential medal.

It would be very interesting to see how many lads actually have the ACSM that have not done the NI residential bit (and huge respect to them).

The reason i said about the 3 medals was because i was at a parade last year & the guy wearing them, who i have known for many years,is an ACF instructor.

Re: Medals, medals and more medals ...
I believe you can have an OBE and an MBE if one is civil division and the other is military division. I have tried to find 'evidence' of this but I can't and I may be confusing it with the rules that applied to BEM's awarded for bravery.

Re: Medals, medals and more medals ...
Absolutely - what about an EOD AT expert who spends his tours walking the long walk but doesn't necessarily spend a lot of time with a bayonet charging enemy trenches? Or the RLC driver in a Helmand convoy, or the Siggy EW guys and countless other CEG's / jobs? It's a big jigsaw and everyone has a part.

Re: Medals, medals and more medals ...
BEM although part of the order was a different award and therefore you can indeed hold a BEM and MBE.

Incidentally Op military awards in the Order of the British Empire Division used to be signified by some sort of a leaf of rosette to distinguish them from normal military awards.ARRSE Premiership Champion 06/07

I said no one owns an MBE & OBE, you said “I bet there are”. You then said, “You just give up the MBE if you get an OBE”. That is correct, if you get promoted in the order you are required to return your ‘lesser’ medal.
Therefore you cannot hold an MBE and OBE at the same time.
