Re: Medals, medals and more medals ...
Still, I suppose searching through old threads is a great way to spend an afternoon ... far better than earning a living. Obviously my earlier comments directed to you in THIS thread were wasted.

Hope that helps ... sorry I couldn't be more helpful by biting ... perhaps you should go back to stalking those that give a fcuk about your comments.

Re: Medals, medals and more medals ...
Getting back to the original question posed in this thread about what new medals there might be in the future I think there should be a service medal that most people who serve could expect to receive along the lines of the Canadian Decoration (CD). I think it is a bit 'unbalanced' that reservist get a the Volunteer Reserve Service Medal (VRSM) after 10 years but the LSGC takes 15 years and has a GC element and there is no medal for regular officers.
I would probably go for a medal after 5 years and bars every 5 years with different ribbons for different services and regular and reserve. With the option to trade medals and bars for LSGC.
The reason I would go for 5 years rather than 10 is so that the majority of people who serve would qualify.
It was not my idea but how about a 'diamond rosette' or bar on the QGJM instead of a Diamond Jubilee Medal or even better real diamonds in a stud?
I would not rule out being involved in Disaster Relief Operations some of which could be sufficiently robust to merit medals. Think future Rwanda type Ops.A DEAD STATESMAN

Re: Medals, medals and more medals ...
When I can be arrsed to get excited about medals, my shit is gripped by the fact that TA wallahs get a very smart medal and a post nominal for three gallons of unleaded petrol, two packs of weetabix and five weekends of pissing it up in some dingy, seedy little TAC (or, indeed, completing several hairy-arsed op tours), whereas those of us whose weekends are regarded as precious time to be spent with family or on the lash, get only a crappy little vets badge, bad knees, gout, piles and absolutely no recognition whatsoever.

Unhand your excrement: the post nominal (TD) was canned by John Major (egged on by some short sighted regular officers who saw the opportunity to put the boot in).

Re: Medals, medals and more medals ...
I was joking about the real diamond - although anyone who wants to give me a diamond is welcome to but I do like the idea of a rossette or bar commemorating the Diamond Jubilee rather than a new medal for those who already have the QGJM. I agree with TB about the VRSM which is why I proposed a service medal for all.

Re: Medals, medals and more medals ...
Surely there is no requirement as Officers are always good boys and girls, so it would be wasted highlighting this with an LS&GC.

How very modern. So in theory we could trade our way up to a Level 9 Paladin. Novel.

Re: Medals, medals and more medals ...
Dingerr: I was suggesting a medal that recognises their service not the good conduct element of it.
The trading in thing is not modern its been happening for at least a hundred years. TA soldiers who had the Territorial Efficiency Medal and were commissioned had the option off handing in their medal and 12 years of their service could could as 6 years towards the Efficiency Decoration (Territorial) (TD). After the institution of the VRSM holders of the TEM and the TD could trade in their clasps in exchange for the VRSM provided it is over 10 years since the award of the previous medal. What I was suggesting is that the existing LSGC's should continue but that the awardee would be required to surrender the new service medal and clasps.
As for disaster relief I went to a presentation about the Rwanda Op and frankly anyone who went there deserved a medal.A DEAD STATESMAN
