Re: Sultan of Oman Armed Forces
There is an "old comrades" sort of association for SOAF officers - with a distinctive green tie with red crossed khanjar motif. They frequently lunch in the Rag or In and Out in various configurations. I am afraid I have no contact details myself but I suspect a quick call to the secretary of the Rag (Tel:020 7827 8081 or
Email: secretary@therag.co.uk) would elicit a contact with that bunch, who might verify your chap. alternatively I know a couple of ex-SOAF officers...if you PM me I might be able to help further. Inshallah.

Re: Sultan of Oman Armed Forces
I was in Oman for 3yrs in the early 90s on the Rapier Sqn in MAM Camp.
Was possibly the best 3yrs I ever had, except for when we had to do the sultans "meet the people tour" for a month :( , trundling around the country living in the field.
One time I stayed in the fort at Al Buraymi absolutely fantastic. Got to use the officers mess there as it was the only place there that sold alcohol - I asked the CO there how long the bar was open for and he replied as long as you are drinking the man will stay behind the bar - all night if required :D :D
I used to do all the missile firing on the ranges at Thumrait - good place for a month but not permanently.
Used to go camping all over the place...what a great country it was. I wish I could turn back time and go back :D
Also met loads of great RAF/Army/civvy lads there...great times

Re: Sultan of Oman Armed Forces
I only went there in 58 - 59 and seem to remember that the 13/18th Hussars had been replaced by the Life Guards.
No sooner did we form into teams than we were re-organised.
I was to learn later in life that we tend to meet every situation by re-organising and what a wonderful method it is for giving the illusion of progress whilst only producing confusion, inefficiency & demoralisation.

Re: Sultan of Oman Armed Forces
Sorry, but you are wrong. White City is west of Tawi Atair and east of the Midway Road
