    Awol:

I was born in a State, where the word Yankee, may be considered derogatory, because of the Civil War. (At least with those Southerners, still fighting that war,)

I don't recall 'Yank' being used in a derogatory way. It was used quite commonly in WW II to refer to Americans in our own media. It is still used by some media and others. Even the ones here and there in the world who hate us, generally use 'Yankee,' go home, etc. (Not Yank.)

I think most Americans, would approve of being called a 'Yank'. I can't say the same about Speptic or SPAM. (I'm not buying that SPAM canned meat stuff either!) :P

"How do you feel about 'Limey'?"

I think its a bit outdated, given the basis for it first use!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limey

I wouldn't use the term; however, its not what I think of it, its what a Brit it is used on might think of its use. I prefer to use 'Brit.'

That doesn't bother me, I've been called worse. As far as I'm concerned, you're more than welcome to call me, Limey, Rosbif, Sassenach, Pom etc to your little heart's content - that's as long as it starts with a Capital Letter!

    Now back to the topic.

Short for Pommy B@st@rd or Whinging Pom.

Nope, I don't imagine anyone here has a problem with that.

Derived from Aussie Rhyming Slang; "Pomegranate" being the closest they could get to "Immigrant".

Oddly enough, Australia's not renowned for its poetry.

Re: Asking questions of the Septics

Tell me something Trip, does the excess of politically correct verbiage that is abundant in the US (and the UK to a lesser extent) not sometimes get on your wick?

You are not allowed to use terms and expressions once widespread just on the off chance that you might somehow offend a very small but overly vocal minority of the population?

Can't say how gay someone is being because the word has been hijacked by militant queers opps I mean the LBGWT community.
Blackboards, manholes, policeman, etc etc all infradig as some militant small minded, petty, provincial, self-centered, selfish and niggardly (opps)Merchant Banker gets a strop on.

If these things have ever been of any concern to you whatsoever then take a good look in the mirror.
