Re: Anyone make model kit's
"loft Insulation" is a standing joke amongst those of us who make kits, having not enough years left, I am sure, to complete all those amassed in my loft.
In fact that's where I should be now!
Still, as I always say to Mrs FB when I am caught red handed smuggling the latest purchase indoors, it could be worse I could spend my hard earned on illegal substances or down the pub!
Some decent links (usual disclaimers) in no particular order are:
Hannants mail order shop
mil models mag
Perth Mil modelling club
Model Mad review site
As for cheap kits of UK hardware try looking out for:-
As mentionedJB Models who do 4 ton Bedford, Landrovers and 105mm light gun here is one- Hannants
Revell do a Warrior as do AFV Club, but in a larger scale
AFV Club also do a Scorpion and Scimitar
Dragon do Challenger II (small scale) and have a new kit coming out soon with the bar armour seen in Iraq
Tamiya do a couple of larger scale Cheiftan, Challengers I and II and L/R Ambulance/SAS pink panther
Airfix (if you can find them) do a larger scale Challenger II (as do a firm called Trumpeter, same kit reboxed)
For those who gave up, give it another go and don't knock it or let yourself be put off by the boo boys.
Some recent inspiration link here:-Warrior by Wayne Bowman
Those with more money than sense how about a working Tiger with real sound here:- Working Tiger II video
I must say model making helps to de-stress me after a long day and for that I don't care who calls me a anorak
.........and if it goes wrong you have an excuse to buy another!

Re: Anyone make model kit's
Working on some very nice Duplex Drive Shermans from Milicast
http://www.milicast.com/pages/index.shtml
at the moment. I'm getting a nice little collection of British WW2 armour together and it gets displayed quite often.
I also have a shelf full of 1/35 armour in the garage/workshop. The rest of the space is filled with aircraft & ship models of varying scales!
If anyone's into 1/24 truck models, pm me - I have some for sale at reasonable prices!

Used to, but haven't been arrsed enough to work on any for the past 5+ years. Now, all the bloody things (both finished and unfinished) are carefully stored away in boxes, awaiting their fate. Should just sell the damned things, I suppose. Is there much market out there for vintage Frog/Airfix kits from the early to late 60s?

Re: Anyone make model kit's
I build 1/35 model tanks, mainly British ones of all periods from the Mk I to the Chally 2, with an occasional Soviet one for variety.
This weekend I’ll be starting on an AFV Club Centurion Mk 5, which I will be finishing in the markings for 6 RTR, Op Musketeer, from Bison Decals.
Has anyone tried the Accurate Armour conversion kits for the Tamiya Chieftain? I fancy doing the Mk 10 in Berlin Brigade urban camouflage. Of course, Sod’s Law says that if I do, one of the mainstream manufacturers will make a plastic kit of the same beast as soon as I’ve finished it!I am the Punishment of God.

There is that strange beast known as the kit collector ( that I sometime worry in darker movements I have become

I know I'm not one as I'm tempted to break their cardinal sin of making the kit.
They even look unfavourably if the kit has had the box opened WTF?
Though they would probably be interested in only the untouched examples, they might be interested in the transfers for other kits.
Try looking on eBay for an idea or use a mag classifieds such as Military Modelling or Scale Aircraft Monthly (have a look in Smiths) or one of the special retailers that deal in second hand kits would pick up, but they have to make a living so not the best price, but less hassle.
Never used these retailers but links to the biggest here
collectakit
kingkit
You might even have a gem, antique roadshow stylie!
good luck!

Re: Anyone make model kit's
How about preparing a list, then putting a note here offering it to those who pm you?

I'm partial to 1/48 scale warbirds... working on a Revell B-25 Mitchell at the moment and I have a Hasegawa P-39 Aerocobra waiting in the wings. Since the model shops around here overcharge for their merchandise (like a 40-50% mark up!) I buy kits from here http://www2.towerhobbies.com/listings/cat-s.html instead. Takes me forever to finish one of course as I tend to fiddle with them only when the weather is lousy and there are no other distractions.
