I'm still waiting for a reply from the beloved Prime Minister. Three weeks now, and counting...
I've worked in bits of MoD where such letters eventually pitch up to get answered - last time I saw a No 10 letter it had taken 6 weeks for them to send it over to MoD......the chances of you getting a quick response are immeasurably better if you
A) side copy the letter to your own constituency MP and ask them to write a letter to PM within 3 weeks if no response AND ask a Question in the House.
B) side copy to MoD Parliamentary Branch
C) Don't write in green ink on paper torn from an exercise book.
I suspect that your enquiry will land up with the Veterans Agency within MoD - try pinging them.
I have had another reply from my MP (Michael Mates) enclosing a letter from John Reid to him. It certainly sounds like a victory even if it the very early stages!!!
Dear Michael,
Thank you for your letter of 10 Nov enclosing an email from your constituent, Mr PerSec, about Government plans to honour the passing of the final British survivor First World War.
I know that there is much interest in this subject and we are currently in the process of considering an appropriate way in which the service and sacrifices of those who took part in the First World War can be marked. With the death of one of the older veterans earlier this week I am concious that time is of the essence and I shall write to you again as soon as I am in a position to outline how we plan to commemorate the passing of that very special generation.
I hope this clarifies my current position.
Kind Regards
John Reid
Keep it up guys, they have taken notice but lets not let them forget.
Today I recieved a letter from Don Touhig MP,Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for defence:
It reads:
Dear Mr Hughes

Thank you very much for your email requesting my support for the campaign for a state funeral for The Last Tommy. I share your lasting gratitude for the sacrifice that that generation made and as you say, none of us can possibly understand the horror of trench warfare. My own regular visits to the battlefields simply emphasise to me how horrendous the experience must have been.
The campaign does seem to me immensely worthwhile and I will certainly support it and write to the Government pressing for this tribute to be made.

This letter came via my MP Mr Derek Twigg.
My reply was via my MP from Touhig and all we can do is wait for the sad passing of the last veteran and watch the MoD do nothing, (Cynical I know, but that 24 years in the Army for you!)
A Stirling reply from my MP,Lady S Hermon,wife of Sir John Hermon (Ex-C.C of the R.U.C) Recieved today;
Dear *******.
Re: State Funeral-The Last 'Last Tommy'.
Thank you so much for your recent e-mail outlining your support for a state funeral for the Last 'Last Tommy' of the First World War.
Let me say straightforward how very grateful I am for the trouble you have taken to bring your thoughts on this matter to my attention & I shall certainly ensure the issues you have raised are brought to the attention of the relavent Government Minister.
With this in mind,I have already written to Don Touhig MP,The Minister for Veterans at the Ministry of Defence, asking what plans his Department has for a state funeral for the last Last Tommy.
As soon as I receive a response from the Minister,I shall of course write to you again.
In the meantime,if I can be of further assistance on this or any other matter, please do not hesitate to contact me,
Kindest Regards,
Sylvia.
Lady Hermon MP
A great response you'll agree. Finally,it looks like we're being heard.
Keep it up,
Spike
No doubt waves are being made in the right departments. If anyone is reading this thread and has come to the conclusion that there are plenty of MPs contacted and they dont need to, PLEASE! Do take the time.
If you already have seen your MP as having been contacted by someone on here, PLEASE! Do contact them yourselves.
I spoke face to face with my local MP, David Laws today afte rthe Rememberance Service in my hometown. He said it was an excellent idea, and said the best way to get this done would be to table a motion in Parliament. He said he would get back to me when he had read my e-mail. ANyone else had any progress?
Ive just emailed my local Westminster MP and asked her to look into the matter of raising this issue in Parliment. Ill let you know how I get on. If everyone does the same it may help.

Just got a reply today on the Westminster Headed paper from my MP Rose McKenna. Apparently the Minister For Veterans has been approached by numerous MP's regarding this matter. My own MP has approached him with the idea (which she thinks is worthy) and she will write back to me when she has a firm answer. Am I right in saying its still Don Touhig thats the Vets Minister?
