Re: THE LAST TOMMY
Thanks for the warning! I just managed to catch the report on "PM". At last those "upstairs" seem to be taking it all seriously - but sadly no mention of Arrse. No doubt the politicians will queue up to claim credit and a front row seat in Westmionster Abbey. Still, as long as the Last Man gets a good send off. Interesting that so many of them like the idea of a state funeral, but did not want to be the last one themselves...

Abeaumont, they may not mention Arrse directly, but their researchers keep a close eye as it taps into a significant niche of the electorate. There's some counter spin on another thread about vets saying no - simply old fashioned manners my press chums tell me but certain editors think there will be some milage in a lets do it / no lets not ding dong

Re: THE LAST TOMMY
Gents,
I'm not a British citizen, nor can I claim to have family that lost their lives in the Great War. But the support I've witnessed on this thread has indeed put a tear in the eye of this, supposedly, hard and cold Scandihoovian. The cause you are persuing here, Gentlemen, is probably one of the most worth one can imagine between servicemen and -women. I only served a short time in the Danish Army, but it was long enough to instill a distinct sense of belonging - a sense that you guys have brought back in full force.
So albeit I'm not a British subject, I've taken the liberty to write No. 10 with a request to grant the Last Tommy a state funeral. It is, in my humble opinon, the very least a grateful nation should offer her fallen sons.
Further, since I am not able to receive all Beeb channels, could a kind soul please burn the BBC documentery on a DVD? I shall obviously reimburse the full costs of DVD and pay for transportation across the Channel. Currently living in Belgium, the very first excursion I took was to Ypres to witness for myself what the battlefield looked like. It was an experience that shall stay with me until I pass on to Valhalla; one shall especially remember Tyne Cott.

good show fella - I'll try to sort out a copy for you, every letter helps as every one that No10 recieves they calculate represents the views of one thousand potential voters.'There is much to learn from the British: their reticence about disclosing details, their clear expertise in human intelligence, their non-hysterical reaction to very real threats. Re: THE LAST TOMMY
I've just had a thought, if they read out the names of any war dead at Wesminster Abbey, will that be an arrestable offence? We all know that the politicos will jump on the bandwagon but this isn't about them, it's about us remembering an entire generation lost because of the failure of politics. Some things don't change too much do they?

Re: THE LAST TOMMY
As someone too young to have witnessed the horrors of World War, I can only imagine what my grandfather and his very special generation had to endure all those years ago. The televising of "The Last Tommy" was a collection of very moving tributes to all those men who fought during 1914-18, and fell in battle. It was punctuated by attempts to depict some of the events that happened during World War One - a very difficult task at the best of times. I thought the subject was handled with great sensitivity throughout.
Of course the very last "Last Tommy" richly deserves the honour of a State Funeral. I have also written to my M.P., as have some of you, and look forward to his comments!
Enjoying the Forum immensely!
