I'm sure that a founder member of the SAS would be robust enough to have a small smirk about what a Weapons Grade Penis you've made yourself look in this thread. He's passed away now sadly, so hopefully his family will be able to find the funny side of what you posted.

RIP Jimmy Storie, stand down Sir.

It's getting a bit dusty in here. *sniff*

Officers don't run, it's undignified and it panics the men.

I attended Jimmy's funeral yesterday in Aberdeen as an additional stranger, just to show my support for the passing of a great man. There was a good turn out from retired SAS regiment personnel, everywhere you looked there were wings and daggers and...winged daggers. I was really moved to be a part of the farewell for the old soldier. I wanted to make sure that there was some representation from current or more recently retired 'special soldiers'. My thoughts are with the family. RIP Jimmy

Alec, I take it this is the photo you were talking about?

    Erm........slight correction to the photograph:

The photo was taken at Bir Zeltan in the Western Desert either late 1942 or early 1943 and shows on the left J T Huckle and on the right with the Webley 846444 Pte H F Burgess both of whom were ‘L’ Detachment. Also not shown is Paddy O’Dowd who was killed at Termoli on 5/10/43.

The above is a temporary digression while I ride one of my hobby horses, a rant by me a soldier, failed lothario and inmate of a proudly independent country, founded by thieves and whores. The gratuitous opinions and comments contained above are more scatological than ideological. Scientific tests conducted by "The Ponds Institute" have determined that I have a very tenuous grasp on reality. You are reading the thoughts one of the biggest wanker currently walking around on four, oops, two legs. I have an ill-informed opinion on pretty much everything. In conclusion there is no truth to the rumour that I am a Philanthropist, Sesquipedalian, World Traveller, and Bon Vivant. Although, I may or may not of been associated with Left and Right Wing authors & lecturers, travellers & bums, wars fought, revolutions started, assassinations plotted, uprisings quelled, governments run, subversion's organised, Communists terrorised, bars emptied, bars filled, Virgins converted, Tigers tamed, Crocodiles castrated, and students tortured.

Jimmy Storie was my father and was the last survivor of L Detachment (see The SAS war Diary Originals Edition)

Jimmy was a cousin to my father I have a large family tree of the Storie's from Ayr if you would like acopy please get in touch

Those in your smaller photo are, from L to R, Chris O’Dowd, Johnny Rose and Jimmy Storie . It was taken at Bir Zelten October 1942. Sgt Chris O’Dowd MM SAS and Irish Guards was born in Galway. He served initially in the Irish Guards before joining the SAS in North Africa. He was awarded the MM for sustained bravery during raids on Bengazi, Fuka Airfield6, Mersa Matruh and Sidi Baranni. He was killed at Termoli on the 5th of October 1943. At the time of his death his CO was an Ulsterman one Blair Mayne DSO and 3 Bars . His nephew Gearoid O’Dowd has written an excellent and enjoyable book about him, “He Who Dared and Died”, it is published by Pen and Sword ISBN 978-1-84884-541-1. It is evident from the book that Chris O’Dowd and Jim Storie were good mates.
