How to attribute an unamed decoration
I have come into possession through a member of my family, who has no knowledge of the background, a Military Cross. It is assumed that it belongs to a family member, which one is not known, although the two known MC recipients' medals are already in my possession. A search of the London Gazette with all the usual names hasn't been successful.
The isncriptione is for Messines on 7 June 1917.
Is there any other online resource which would help me attribute this award? Surely there can't have been many MCs awarded on a particular day... can there?

Four VCs were awarded: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Messines
A number of MC winners are mentioned here: http://www.worcestershireregiment.co...inc/h_messines and here: http://www.nzetc.org/tm/scholarly/te...-body1-d8.html
This might help: http://www.berr.gov.uk/aboutus/corpo...page29610.html
MSR‘Good God!’ he laughed, and slowly filled his pipe,
Wondering ‘why he always talked such tripe’.

Thanks very much MSR. That might help narrow down the LG search... some interesting tales to be read.
