Kit monster knows his stuff he can confirm this or tell me im talking out of my arrse but before H8 we were informed that the powers that be might be procuring crye multicam for field ops as it had proved popular with 1 para, i wasnt convinced purely based on the cost of crye gear but then pecoc appeared on the scene and it has a remarkable rescemblance to MC, was this perhaps the cheaper alternative?
ps forgive me if this has already been mentioned.
As KM is settling into his new location, I hope you will accept an answer from me.
Crye is being considered as an option, as are several others. The requirement is to provide something that works between Green Zone and Desert - two wildly contrasting environments! Cost is the least of the considerations. What is more important is time and performance - not only the cam itself but the material. The US has differing material specs so they are generally heavier and less breathable in hot environments. It may be that we can do something similar to Crye pattern (but probably based on the UK DPM pattern but with different colours) that works just as well. Camouflage is about colour density, luminosity and mix rather than the actual patten itself.
This is exercising some serious grey matter and we arent at a decision yet but we are gettting there. It will take a bit more time to weigh up the pros and cons of each.
Gearspotter thanks for the reply, maybe the private research put into producing MC might justify purchasing it off the shelf (obviously it would not be Herrick specific research but hey-ho,prob dangerous to only see as far as helmand OPs what with the current climate, N.Pakistan anyone?)
I think we have had alot of success with our recent off the shelf purchase of equipment for use on OPs why not continue?
