    Re: Best boots (tabbing, etc.)

I am really lucky. I wear issue boots, had them for four years (though I am STAB, so not as many miles as others). I also use them when hill walking civvistyle. Never leaked, no blisters, like slippers. But I use a lot of talcum powder in them for walking any distance, and I also have a pair of sports insoles - the best money I ever spent.

I do have one question on boots - and couldn't see the answer to it. I have my issue boots - two pairs. One slipper like and and polished for walking / field ex stuff. One pair for barracks / parade / looking all boss in. However, after four years of dilligently doing the polish in little circles etc. thing they shine but not like some of the old blokes. Whenever you ask them they all have different approaches - nosecone paint, various cleaning agents for which you require an industrial licence etc. So, if you really want that old-stylee "so shiney you can see up a womans skirt" look for issue boots, what product should you use?

Anyone here ever tried Han-wag GTX's?

I can get hold of a pair fairly cheap through a friend but thought I would ask for opinions here.

The best boots I have ever owned - by far. I have had Danners, Altbergs. pro-boots etc, but found those the best - much better than the Altbergs which were supposedly specially made for me after fittng at the Richmond shop.

But - v warm, so after many years of hard work I have condemned them to the bio-hazard bin and bought a pair of the non-Goretex ones to replace them.

Also, as I have said on here before boots are only great if they fit your feet, not mine! Try them on - I have narrow feet, so you might struggle if you have fat plates

Are you mental? As much as they are pretty comfy to walk round camp they have no ankle support whatsoever.

The issued ones are pretty much upto the job once they're well broken in I've been using the same ones 6 years, might want to invest in a good pair of soles.

As for buying boots, I've heard good things about lowas from everyone
