I can only assume that your job means that you stay in barracks. The aircrew boot is a lightweight that was never designed to take much wear and tear. I know because I have used them for decades as well. For the tougher use the old combat highs are better, even though they are heavier. I have no problems with the new issue boot either.

My thought is that that is almost a direct lift from one of Andy McNab's books, right down to the word Gucci. Who've you been talking to, and what colour's the boathouse?

Back when I was still serving we were issued the (belive first) run of combat highs, and I couldn't stand them. At that time I used Lunghags with Berghaus Yeti's in the field.

When I did a tour of Belfast we were issued Magnams - but I do agree they were sh1t.

Now as a civvie, for general walking on the hills I wear either KSB's or the Berghaus version of them and have found them to be the best pair of boots I have ever worn.

But..... as others have said, every set of feet happen to be different, and where 1 x make of boots os good for one person, they will be no good for another.

Do you write as you think?
    I rarely think its overated
waterproof magnum boots you can wear in wet conditions as a high legged waterproof trainer no support at all though
On a Hot morning in cyprus I found the meaning of anger. Fortunataly I was comftably numb.
The RSM and various other NCO's seemed very agitated.
maybe they should look into counselling?

Joke ;) Although it very similar to a passage in Immediate Action about why candidates for selection re only allowed to wear issue boots. Ex-them don't tend to advertise being ex-them either (unless it helps to sell books).

    The Boathouse

Anyway, this is veering a bit off course. I would imagine that if your boots broke on ops you'd probably end up wearing issued ones. That said, it would take some force to break a pair of Lowas beyond all repair.

i suppose when u look at it that way it makes sense!! You should be looking after your kit anyway so there should be no need for them to fuck up! Think ill buy them Altberg sneekers then, anyone found any boots that keep your feet warm even if they are soaked through all the time?

    Yeoman Dai

Although, i'm having problems with them lately, my toes are getting bunched up at the end - I thought feet stopped growning at 21year

I thought so too but at an age well after 21 (maybe another 21) my feet grew a full size, which was a total nause because I had a couple of pairs of lovely boots which I had to give away because all of a sudden they were cutting the shite out of my feet. Before I get any posts about weight increase and me being a fat cnut has caused my feet to spread, the answer is no, no weight increase. If only other things would get a bit longer too.

The issue CAB worked for me for years... before destroying my achilles tendons :( now I wear either the issue cold weather boot or magnums. Don't get blisters on cft's my tendons don't flare up much, and they're comfy as well.
Personally I'd give all the CAB's away to Opfors and reduce their numbers a bit (the opfor). I'm sure the manufacturers are on a backhander from who-ever makes Brufen
