It comes to something when this has to be addressed on Arrse.

Why oh why do we continue to see the increase in the wearing of berets as peaked flat hats with badges not over the left eye, but stuck almost behind the line of the left ear?

    Is it fashion?

    Is it style?

    Is it comfortable?

    Is it respectful?

Is it a sign of Regimental individuality?

Is it simple idleness and a failure of the Change of Command in not having the Moral Courage to correct it?

Is it a sign of toughness?
I look forward to your letter to Soldier mag, complete with name demonstrating the moral courage you seem to find so lacking instead of addressing this issue on an anonymous internet forum...

They aren't wearing it to any standard and I am not looking to be impressed.

If the army wanted, really, really wanted everyone to look the same they why continue to issue items of clothing that need to be shaped and styled by the soldier. Why not issue pre-shaped berets?

Or why don't we go back to No2 Dress Hats...

oh yes, people would slit the peak and reshape them...IIRC it was usually Guards sncos and warrant officers. What IS the army coming to eh?

Perhaps the solution is for everyone to wear helmets all the time....

In the career of glory one gains many things; the gout and medals, a pension and rheumatism....all of these fatigues experienced in your youth, you pay for when you grow old. Because one has suffered in years gone by, it is necessary to suffer more, which does not seem exactly fair.

Kindly fix your own cap badge to the correct position above your left eye with a 6 inch nail and a sledghammer.

Not particularly. My cap badge is miles away from my left eye, as I tend to leave it in the car.

They are wearing it to their standard and if you arent looking to be impressed why get upset about it? It make no difference to their ability to do their job.

Well me for one, I am glad you brought this up on arrse. Now the 99% of the site who are cadets, cadet instructors, security guards,Joey deacons taxi rank, pointless French wives, stabs who get pushed out of their service by 19 yer old girls and washed up veterans( which I am one) can now enforce our rule over bored squaddies in motorway services on a Friday afternoon.

I for one look forward to getting chinned with a piping hot pasty by 2 Para.
