get your PCS on and wear it properly - untucked (even if you are a civvie - get a grip).
Umm...unless this is a big 'waah', I think the stencilling on the box behind him indicates that given his current LOCSTAT, he is wearing what has been issued to him and worn as per SOs...

He actually raises a good point PCS is very practically-designed combat uniform, but way more expensive (by nature of it's design) than C95 and shirt GS/JHW. It would seem to be common sense for an Army so intent on saving money to wear (and wear out) a cheaper uniform for day-to-day use in barracks.

The original intent was that FAD barracks dress would be worn in camp - and to be honest, I'd rather wear C95 trousers, shirt GS and a JHW than that shite!

Groundie - i know you are a good man, but please keep insane ideas like those you mentioned earlier to yourself mate or some lunatic might be daft enough to try implement them.

we have PCS, it's modern, it's well designed, it's comfortable, its practical, it's brilliant camouflage and it's FREE and you don't even have to wear a belt with it - lets milk it.

I'm not paying for it...but neither does it grow on trees!

The point is that the Armed Forces are doing some rather silly things to save money at the moment, some of which impact real operational capability. If we can save a few shekels here and there on lots of trivial things, it might add up to a few extra million that can be spent on something useful each year.

A lot of work was done balancing out the costs of the new kit with the old. Although it is more expensive than
CS95, its' durability is better so when you look at costs over 5 years, it works out cost neutral. Certainly it's cheaper to the MOD than developing, manufacturing and issuing yet another uniform just to wear in barracks.

If units really, REALLY want a "smart in barracks practical uniform" that isn't Barrack Dress, I would just remind them that Lightweights and Shirts GS are still in the inventory and can be issues and worn with or without HDS.

But do we really want to take such a great leap backwards?

Oh, I don't know... Dig out my old 2 tone lightweights again! Not that they'd still fit me!

I'm not sure how big a leap that would be. The greatest leap back, shurely, would be to only have (a) combat clothing and (b) coveralls - as was the case prior to the intro of Suits Combat, Olive Sateen, Circa 1971.

Having not seen it, I have the impression of the new issue barrack dress as suitable only for desk jobs or foot drill - trousers LW etc. at least gave you an option (and a very flexible, if none too elegant one) for everything from log races to area cleaning, You might reasonably wear PCS for the former (but it would be needless wear and tear). For gungy menial tasks like the latter, however, perhaps there should be a cheap'n'cheerful alternative.

But as explained already items of dress are still available for grot jobs, so issue coveralls from the Q stores and wear over trs lwt and some sort of T shirt when track bashing or on cookhouse fatigues (if those are done anymore).
