Re: National Defence Medal (NDM)
Here is one for the Bling catalogue, if the chief of defence staff in an
official capacity presents private medals, to his political crony mates
what message does that send out?
It is complete bollox and he should be taken to task.

Re: National Defence Medal (NDM)
Easy, just award all NS veterans a medal for 2 years service, and award the same medal to all regular veterans for 4 years service (like the Australians did for the ADM) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Defence_Medal

National Service Medals
'It would be divisive to offer National Servicemen a medal for being conscripted, when those who volunteered for service would be excluded from receiving any award.' http://www.veterans-uk.info/medals/national_serv.html
By the way all Australian NS veterans have been awarded two medals by their government. An NS medal and an ADM.
British NS veterans would only be delighted to just receive one single official medal from their MEAN SPIRTED government.

Re: National Defence Medal (NDM)
Did you bother to read the post above yours when you posted that? All you NDM-campaigners (who seem to have joined ARRSE purely to spout about that single issue) demand reasoned argument but present none of your own and then simply respond to jibes and nothing else.

This whole thing just seems to come down to feelings i.e 'I want one' versus 'I don't want one'. Given that there very obviously is not an overwhelming consenus in favour of an NDM, why should the Queen / MOD bother?Sh1te trooper...but super trouper!

Re: National Defence Medal (NDM)
It's still a medal for just doing your daily job though isn't it? Total Walter Mitty stuff for walter Mitties such as yourself.

I've given up 9125 days so far of what could have been my free time. So why should weekend warriors get a medal for attending the odd drill night?

You get the LS&GC for, you know, that full-time career that you volunteered for.

So you are calling Australian VC holder Trooper Mark Donaldson who carried the poppy wreath that the Queen laid on the tomb of the Unknown Warrior in Westminster Abbey a walter middy eh? He was wearing an Australian Defence Medal for four years service in the ADF. See photo.
