I think it is an incredible idea - it's the kind of medal lots of people would really want. Think about it, we could have various grades of medal to indicate how injured you were:

Bronze medal: twisted ankle - break of minor bones
Silver medal: Major bone breaks - being shot (not through an organ)
Gold medal: Quite a nasty shooting wound - losing 4 limbs

What do you get for snake/insect bite? Dysentery or Malaria? The sniffles?

If they occurred on ops then someone'll want a medal for it.

Perhaps a Combat Pregnancy Medal too? An inverted V perhaps?
