A tad harsh, but you're thinking along the right lines. I was thinking more about an Olympic Parade where they marched past and saluted the Sovereign in order to acknowledge our contribution in civilising and improving them, followed by a film spectacular to include 'Zulu', 'The Guns of Navarone', 'The Cruel Sea', the 'Heroes of Telemark, 'Khartoum' and others. All this followed by a swift and heavily controlled journey to the airports to prevent any unwelcome stayers-on.
Facts not fiction please

I thought the opening ceremony was fantastic. I expected a disaster and was happy to be shown wrong.

Well, me and the Mrs sat through the entire thing last night on the Sky box, grows on you and I was even moved to buy the soundtrack album on iTunes.
Warning, this post contains some flash photography.

I enjoyed it and was pleasantly surprised not to be squirming in embarrassment. More so when Mrs Ties (a Canuck) started laughing like a loon at HM Queen and Bond doing their bit.
You know you're out of the Army when your bergan is going moldy in the loft. Bugger.

Here we go again. I don't understand why we need to suspend our critical faculties just because it's a patriotic duty to lurve the Games.
Some people have poured scorn on the fat RAF chap. If you check the footage you'll see that he was the only one marching in step. All the other buggers were all over the place with shocking drills and had clearly never seen a pace stick.
It's my patriotic duty to point out the excellence of the RAF's contribution: first class marching about in impeccably bulled boots, great drills and thanks to the RAF's SAM cover, no planes crashing into Brunel.
Let's celebrate the Royal Air Force without any miserable Arrse quibbling.
Anybody who disses the RAF is a "miserable" sod, lashed to a sofa chariot, surrounded by stale Pringles, tab ends and an empty bottle of Liebfraumilch.

I thought it was a technical masterpiece and congratulate all those that worked on it. Sir Paul excepted.
I had the immense privilege of being at the final rehearsal and once it got going was blown away by the lighting, sound, the sheer scale of what was happening. The highlight for me was when the rings started moving above our heads.
I'll sail this ship alone ...
