Fixed that for you.
On a serious note. I left the UK back in Oct 09. After 8.5 years in plod back there I could see the writing on the wall for society, the economy, and the job and spoke with my feet.
I'd never go back there to live and that might be your problem. If she gies back for a jolly, surrounds herself with friends and rellies, and treats it as a holiday she'll see it all rosy and will want to stay. Whereas the reality of living and working there will be different.
If she misses Brits you should join the Calgary Fire Dept and move to some of the towns just outside. There's more British people here than most towns in the UK."Crazy like wild wolves threatened by fire, send them all to the bottom of the sea."

What are employment levels like in Calgary and Edmonton at the moment as am thinking of making a shift. Mrs P_L is a seal clubber so there would be no problems with immigration.

I would have to say if the money is better than a job in the UK, i would consider settling in Canada. And if you can see yourself liking the job too. it is hard if your wife isn't keen on Canada, but try and let her know the postive things about living in Canada. however if she is really hating Canada and doesn't get home often, you may need to think about other options. good luck!

I'm sure the lads living in Alberta can answer this better than me as I am in Ontario but think about it, it's a much better way of life. Don't get me wrong this isn't the land of milk and honey but compared to any life I could have in the UK........ I'm busy drinking milk and eating honey.
Canada is mahoosive. Lpts of variety, depending on what you want.

well having lived in Canada both in Ontario and Alberta, I would love to go back. I have also lived in the UK for 5 Years and therefore I am familiar with UK life style too. I suppose it all depends on what sort of life you all want and where the best place will be for you all to have that life. good luck on your decision.

I'm Canadian. I was in the British Army. She's an idiot. Why are you even considering doing what she wants to do?
This should change her mind about wanting to become a Canadian:

Oh and seriously - since no one has said out loud what everyone is thinking - man the fuck up - when the little woman earns the cash that keeps everyone in jumpers and holidays then she gets to say where the family unit lives - until then - not so much.

Wot she said.
Plus the traffic in UK is appalling, public transport is shite, there are laws against just about everything imaginable which only criminals and pikeys are not obliged to obey. Political correctness is endemic and life threatening; the creeping cancer of fanatical Islam is overtaking our cities on the one hand and where that isn't the case the cities concerned are probably no-go areas especially after dark on the other hand.
Oh an Canadian wimmin tend to have bigger tits.Last edited by eodmatt; 11-10-2011 at 06:39.
