What are employment levels like in Calgary and Edmonton at the moment as am thinking of making a shift. Mrs P_L is a seal clubber so there would be no problems with immigration.

I would have to say if the money is better than a job in the UK, i would consider settling in Canada. And if you can see yourself liking the job too. it is hard if your wife isn't keen on Canada, but try and let her know the postive things about living in Canada. however if she is really hating Canada and doesn't get home often, you may need to think about other options. good luck!

I'm sure the lads living in Alberta can answer this better than me as I am in Ontario but think about it, it's a much better way of life. Don't get me wrong this isn't the land of milk and honey but compared to any life I could have in the UK........ I'm busy drinking milk and eating honey.

well having lived in Canada both in Ontario and Alberta, I would love to go back. I have also lived in the UK for 5 Years and therefore I am familiar with UK life style too. I suppose it all depends on what sort of life you all want and where the best place will be for you all to have that life. good luck on your decision.

If she wants a reason not to return to Blighty - The houses are minute. Everything is expensive, our children are basically feral, the taxes are outrageous, she would have to work rather than sit on her arse at home looking after the kids, the Education system sucks unless you have the cash to go private or find one of the few schools in the country not fucked up by 40 years of Communists in the teaching profession. Our health service sucks. Outdoor space is usually the size of a postage stamp.

The advantages of living here are many too - Culture, affordable travel, decent money, good public transport, her friends, history, great Pub culture, fantastic restaurants at the cutting edge in London etc.

Plus the traffic in UK is appalling, public transport is shite, there are laws against just about everything imaginable which only criminals and pikeys are not obliged to obey. Political correctness is endemic and life threatening; the creeping cancer of fanatical Islam is overtaking our cities on the one hand and where that isn't the case the cities concerned are probably no-go areas especially after dark on the other hand.
