It's a bit like Captain Peacock (out of Are You Being Served) all this retired officer stuff.

The most recent guidance i saw (years ago) was that an officer moved from the active to the retired list does not have to put Rtd after his name unless there is some chance of confusion, for instance if writing a letter about something where people might assume he is still serving and might not be an old fart talking rubbish, or in an environment where some allowance needs to be made for him being a bit out of touch, e.g. if recalled for an exercise. Rtd is not actually part of one's actual rank.
My g.uncle was on the retd list as a Cdr all throught WW2 including the invasion of Madagascar and D-Day. It's a long and shaggy story!Dr Johnson: 'Any man thinks less of himself for not having been a soldier, or not having been to sea.'
Thiomas Babington Macaulay, quoted by Admiral of the Fleet Lord Fisher of Kilverstone: 'Moderation in war is imbecility!'
Douglas MacArthur: 'There is no substitute for Victory!'

What's the sketch with the TA and bringing the Army into disrepute when not signed on?

"If however you offer to moderate you may be a sanctimonious, unfunny pissflap to your heart's content."
Some comments are allegedly "very very nasty and uncalled for."

The chap in question earlier in this thread despite being a TA WO has made a lot of claims and upset a lot of people involved in charities such as the ABF etc... CivPlod have dealt with most of it but this guy is abusing his position in the TA to gain the trust of several charities.

Michael Morley, various FB accounts (lonely hearts style) LinkedIn accounts (showing his spurious claims) Cnut can't read a map and his V&S obviously don't exist
www.facebook.com/Michael.morley.79
Can't link his other one but same guy claiming to be at university of Phoenix
The following is an excerpt of a text he sent me
"If you would like to about me and my army career i served 23 years was a WO1 9 medals 10 tours 10 years special forces 1 year as a WO 2 in the TA as a WO 2 turned down a contract as a WO 1"
LinkedIn doesn't seem to have the option to provide links but he has 3/4 profiles all claiming to be either Army, or logistics consultancy. He is easy enough to spot
Michael wears Para ties, claims to be a para though when questioned drops it to Airborne. My favourite claim is the 25,000 mile walk he did in Afghanistan, at 30 miles a day that's about two years!
Seen fundraising in uniform wings up and unpressed uniform (de rigeur for a para perhaps?) but I was always of the impression that uniform if worn in public (with relevant permission from regiment etc...) would be smartly pressed to present a professional image.
Worst of it is the dull Cnut can't even pronounce the word Milk ( he pronounces it Mulk, I can not envisage this guy being a leader of men he mumbles 90% of the time and knows fuck all. Came on an 8 week walk with no useful kit. Went home after 3 days...Last edited by Jerrycan2793; 17-06-2012 at 16:26.
