Mate, don't even get me started. I deal with these trumpets all the time. They seem to infest regional Bde HQs en masse; everything is too much trouble, and if they do you 'a favour' they're going to make sure you know it. God forbid they'll ever be proactive, intuitive, reasoned, imaginative or anything remotely useful. "It's not in the JSP". "Regulations forbid it" (when they don't). And as you highlight, tagging someone with a SO2 handle gives them airs they simply don't warrant. There is one up the road from me who styles himself 'SO2 Security' and has even been seen to wear Major's slides in uniform as part of the Bde Comd's ACF inspection team (surely a job designed for pedos if ever there was one).
Rant over. Fucking cunts.
Edited: Just read back up through the thread and I've basically re-worded Bickies' earlier post. Mea culpa.
2nd Edit: Fuck it - I've named the post.Last edited by LAIT; 11-06-2012 at 18:43.

Field Officers (Majors and above) can use their rank if they so wish after retirement. This changes during wartime when any officer can use his rank after retirement (hence Capt Bob Maxwell but not Captain Mark Phillips). Mess dress can be worn by retired officers providing a brass R is worn below the rank as can service dress if attending an official function (for example, being presented with a gong etc).
Anyone, in this day and age, who continues to use their rank in civvy street is a tosser. The ROs who infest headquarters like to use it but that just about sums it up. As is anyone turning up in uniform to a non official function after retirement. Some people just can't let go....oh, that doesn't apply to Field Marshals.I can say the name of that railway station in Wales, as well.

Every Rtd Field Officer I know doesn't do it. Including an ex 22 SAS Colonel.

Why would you? When you've left, you've left - you know what you have (or haven't) done; what does it matter? The only time that I've ever got upset about it (not much...) was when Mrs H_M 2nd's sister asked me what it was like in the [Royal] Marines. I almost spat out a mouthful of Mrs H_M 2nd's Mum's lovingly prepared evening meal - fortunately her Dad stepped in and gave me another vodka to stop me from choking...

Maybe when you said 'SPS' earlier, she misheard you and thought you said 'SBS'. It happens.
