I was only 9, I remember getting burnt to a crisp and having to queue at a water bowser in the street as all mains water had been switched off due to the drought.

    Re: Remember 1976?

Sat in the RUC station at Belcoo (I looked at it on Google streets yesterday - they've completely rebuilt it) a few days from end of tour. An attached 17/21L in our troop had wangled what he thought would be a cushy job with the incoming regiment, driving ATO's Land Rover. He crowed about how he would be sat in the ten minute room at Omagh watching the Cup Final while we were checking culverts on the road to Garrison. As it happens, we were finished by lunchtime and sat and watched Saints beat Man U ... while ATO and Roly got called out at 1450.

Getting ready to H/O our vehicles to 15/19H in Tidworth with the washdown closed till further notice, and then move to Herford. Had 2 weeks leave in July. Went to Cornwall and had a tan 100% better than in 1975 when I spent the entire summer in Cyprus on UNFICYP.

Adventure training in Bavaria in September, fantastic, oh I also got promoted to L/Cpl on the first working day in Herford. 1976 a VERY GOOD year.

80%. didn't get the Abba and tennis ones.
90% - blew up on Starsky and Hutch (which I have never, ever watched), but what is worse - I got the one on footie (which I have always despised) correct!!
Me too and it was the same question that I got wrong.

    You've finished the quiz.
Your answers were 90 per cent correct.
    It isn't quite full marks,
but we're still be proud of you.

Funnily enough we had just passed the Gunners OP at the entrance to the Gasworks. The week prior to this the Sunday Times had run an article about the possibility of a student developing a small Nuclear Device. Think back to your NBC training, there was an almighty bright flash, out on the deck and looked up and there was a sodding great fireball rising above .. the next few minutes involved strange bowel movements, then nothing. Oh well I wasn't the one who was fooled..

A nice postcript, after the bits of the players were recovered and accounted for , about two months later a dog was found playing with a hand with a revolver in it, so there must have been a fourth one. :D

The ex SAS bloke was from Anderson's Town there was another one in S Armargh.
Funny, I was one of the first to use the gasworks as an OP base in 72? I was in the Ardoyne when they went up. I stood in front of the notice board looking at the pic, laughing, got bollocked by the BSM. He didn`t know I knew the lads who were in there at the time. I may even know you Western, wer you Tombs`s?
    Wasn`t there an extra leg?

I was in Brighton during that summer. Went into Brighton one day and it had turned red. A plague of ladybirds had come over from the continent.

Those that stayed gave birth to the plague of gays of today.
Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

I didn't say it was your fucking fault, I said I was blaming you.
