Forces Songs
Does anyone know any good forces songs? Any that were specific to your unit or sung army-wide? As dirty as you like (or not)!

Re: Forces Songs
Song about a paratrooper in 1970 NI that threw himself upon a bomb. Knew an old para LE major that used to sing it when he was wazzed. Im not para, he was a cadet OC at the time but an awesome bloke. Soldier by harvey andrews was the song.

Re: Forces Songs
'Goodbye Dolly Gray' had a resonance for my lot, as did 'We'll hang out the washing on the Seigfried Line'
I don't feel old. I don't feel anything until noon.
Whoever said the pen is mightier than the sword obviously never encountered automatic weapons
You, you, and you ... Panic. The rest of you, come with me."

Our barrack's rugby club song was Two Little Boys complete with sound effects and actions
They shall mount up with wings as eagles.

Re: Forces Songs
We are the galloping 5&9s
We are the galloping 5&9s
Every man in the squadron is willing to do or die
We are the galloping 5&9s
And we're next to the navy on the sea
If it wasn't for the galloping 5&9s boy,
Where the feck would the army be?
Miles behind the lines (shovelling sh!t)
Miles behind the lines (shovelling sh!t)
If it wasn't for the galloping 5&9s boy,
Where the feck would the army be?Emsdorf and Victory!
Drive me closer!
I want to hit them with my sword!

Re: Forces Songs
This song was about Sgt Michael Willets GC, 3 Para, who died in Springfield Road Police station, when it was blown up in 1971.

Re: Forces Songs
"I've sat in this saddle for hours and hours,
I've stuck it as long as I could.
But I'm damned if I'll stick it any longer, any longer,
My arsehole is not made of wood, wood, wood."
I can't recall to which unit it belongs, but my Granddad used to sing it to me when I was a kid. As a clue to its source, Granddad's job at Arnhem was throwing supplies out of the back of aeroplanes."Hurrah for the Works Group" just doesn't have the same ring...
"A volunteer is worth ten pressed men."
So, a TA battalion or nine Regular Guards battalions? Not a difficult choice, then (especially as we don't have nine Regular Guards battalions).

Re: Forces Songs
"They say there's a troopship just leaving Bombay,
Bound for Old Blighty's shores.
Heavily laden with time-expired men,
Bound for a land they adore.
There's many a Sergeant just finishing his time,
There's many a twerp signing on.
But they'll get no promotion,
This side of the Ocean,
So cheer up my lads, bless 'em all.
Bless 'em all,
Bless 'em all,
The long and the short and the tall,
But they'll get no promotion, this side of the Ocean,
So cheer up my lads, bless 'em all."
Many variations, depending on where the singer was stationed. Dad knew this version from 1944, Granddad knew it from 1937."Hurrah for the Works Group" just doesn't have the same ring...

"We had to join up,
We had to join up,
We had to join old Churchill's Army.
Ten bob a week, bugger all to eat,
Dirty great blisters hanging off our feet."
Repeats (incessantly!)"Hurrah for the Works Group" just doesn't have the same ring...
"A volunteer is worth ten pressed men."
